Tactics & Training Tips

It's no use having a squad full of star players without a decent way for them to play their football.

Default The Orang Utan Theory applied into the 4-4-2

This concept is for those who play a flat line tactic without AMC or DMC positions directly. This idea is based on creating diagonal passes and positions within a flat tactic. It also promotes good position among a short passing range working with one of the strikers as targetman.

The Orang Utan Theory is to have (not by coincidence) your defensive midfielder playing in line behind your targetman. When running forward whese two are most likely given less or no forward runs. So what happens here is the players next to them (less defensive midfielder and dribbling forward) will move forward with the wingers creating a beautiful diagonal formation in the middle of the park.

Add,in general, the deeper striker should be in line with the deeper midfielder.

It is just a concept that would improve link up. I cannot say it would make a huge impact but more of better arrangement not having players cramping into space where one player would do.

Me too, I think it looks pretty, and I like diagonal lines as much as the next man, but in terms of results, I'd probably spank you and send you to bed with no supper.

In these theoretical images it is obvious that the attack has no large empty areas so link up should be stronger. A 3-5-2 with three attacking midfielders is the optimum diagonal link up chain between the two strikers and midfielders.
