Hey everyone, I been away from FM for a while now and have just came back to try out FM07 a bit
Anyway, I am trying to create a standard 442 formation as its my favourite style of play. I based it kind of on the RoT system with very slight differences between the home and away tactics.
The MCL is a more defensive minded player with the MCR being the more creative, however I still like to try and get both players to have a high workrate. In the FCL position I use a more creative striker even though there isnt a lot of difference between the individual orders of both strikers, I find this striker often drops just ever so slightly deeper, the FCR is my out and out finisher. Pace is good for both strikers as they seem to often run onto quick clearances from the fullbacks.
The home formation plays with the defensive line pushed up a little with no offside trap or counter attacking. The fullbacks have forward runs often to try and pile on more pressure down the wings at home with the width set a slightly wide. The ML/R both have farrows, combined with the fullbacks forward runs this seems to give my wingers good rating at home and a lot of the ball. Closing down is up a touch and time wasting down a touch, again this to attempt to pile on more pressure using the home advantage. I slowed down the tempo slightly at home also to try and keep the ball more.
For the away tactic I removed the farrows from the ML/R to try and make them defend a litte more which seems to help as the fullbacks dont push forward as often in the away version with forward runs set to mixed, I'm considering testing this set to rarely soon but not sure yet. The mentality and creative freedom have been dropped slightly in the away version with the temp pushed up a bit, this is to try and counter attack a little more quickly even though I dont use the counter attack option. The defensive line is also dropped a little deeper as I expect to be put under pressure away from home and time wasting is upped a bit, this is to try and hold the ball a little more. I removed tight marking from the away version because from my first impressions using these tactics I get beaten in to the tackle a lot more away from home so I'm trying to make my defenders stand off the opposition a little more. The width is lowered also for this version to try and condense play and win the ball back quicker.
These tactics are definitely still a work in progress as I only just came back to FM but because I have been away for a while I thought I would post them here for any advice on changes as I dont really know what, if anything, has changed with the game mechanics such as what works and what doesnt etc.
Please give any feedback and ideas because as I already said, this is a work in progress and I'm looking for any ways to make this a better 442 tactic
Forgot to mention, I'm currently using Man Utd (I know, big team but once I'm stisfied with the tactic with them I'm planning on moving to a lower division) I have had pretty good results so far, I won all my pre-season friendlies, they were all against lower class teams such as Hibs, Motherwell and Bury but in the 5 friendlies I scored 17 goals and conceded 0.
In the season I only drew with Reading away in my first game but I dominated the game, just couldnt score. Since then I had results such as beating west ham 4-1 at home and Liverpool 1-0 away, they were playing that horrid 4231 formation, never liked playing against that
Anyway, I look forward to any feedback and thanks in advance
You can't rename a .rar file. You need to get some freeware rar extractors here and extract the files to the tactics folder. For the non-initiated, .rar works in a similar way to .zip files, but is more compressed.
