Well, I'm quite "afraid" to use this instruction for my central midfielders, as I tend to think that, by trying often through balls, my team will lose lots of precious balls. My current settings are on mixed. I sometimes play in the full match mode, but I didn't try to see what happens with "often through balls" (I will, as soon as I play next time - probably when I get home from the office)
I use through balls a lot because I like to play with fast strikers and have target man supply set to "run onto ball". I even set my full backs to try through balls often, because crosses aren't so useful with no aerial presence. It should probably only be used with players who have good passing, decisions and creativity stats though.
Yes. It's very effective if you have pace up front and if you have players with good passing and creativity, then all the better. I came up with a ploy ( here's the link: http://community.sigames.com/eve/for.../m/5202001372) which uses this a lot and it's been very successful for me. I won the English Championship with Sunderland then finished 8th without really signing anyone. The ploy is based on having your entire team playing through balls....it sounds bizarre, but trust me.
I'm playing with these parts of player instructions atm.
I dont like the fact no matter how good your player is if you have him on through balls often, cross balls often, long shots often, this to me is telling him to try it at every chance he gets, i dont think ive scored more then a hand full of long shots in about 20 seasons so why bother wasting the chance to create somthing else. So for me untill i get proved wrong on the pitch most things are on mixed or rearly, but for fwd runs which for ur attacking force should be on mixed/often.

Maybe the question should be what exactly is a through ball?
I think a through ball is a clever ball into space the run follows after the pass.
A clever chip over the last line instead of a shoot or a ball down the line instead of a cross. This type of passing is all about vision flair and creativity also CF plays a roll in this and off course PASSING
Player who are set to no TB will still play balls deep into space the difference is the run of the striker (or other player) will be made first the player still needs good passing the change off losing the ball is smaller but the number of goal attempts will also be smaller.
