It's no use having a squad full of star players without a decent way for them to play their football.

I´m happy you had sucess but remember my approach was designed for 4x1x2x1x2 tactic and you need certain player attributes to be effective.

Either way, nice you won some games in a row but maybe because Middlesbrough are suited for pressing game. Cannot result so good with other teams/players.

Remember main objective behind global strategy:

- team must play hight tempo (high closing down and some tight zonal marking) to quickly gain ball;
- team must play low tempo (rest and control/pass) when in possesion -> simply choose low tempo (less chances, but higher quality)

I do played a lot on FM2006 using this requisites but for FM2007 i still learning more and more because i got game near 1 week and only played about 3/4 games. So, i really don´t know if AI have te ability to "learn".

Now, there is much more to do: set pieces accordingly and/or choose correct players for positions/tasks. Take a look, carefully, at individual instructions and adapt to which opponent you face.

Finally, i believe 100% when you wrote: Especially closing down and hard tackling on the wings seems to do a difference.

Myst,
Sorry, now I see where you place D-Line. So you just move D-L, but you don't change players mentality. In wwwfan's thread about Tactical theoremes, they're testing mirroring CD and D-L -I imagine you've read that. I was thinking on a way to link those two aspects and mentality, depending on away/home matches or the side you are facing.

I asked about Creative Freedom because wwwfan used to say that high CD limits space for attacking players, so maybe it could be balanced with CF.

Anyway, I really like your approach. I tweaked my RoT based tactic with your CD suggestions and results are promising (although I just played pre-season friendlies). I think it also works very well to use Opposition Instructions for the wingers: I tick CD Always and force to play the inside foot (so left winger, right foot).

Garate,

I do change players mentality

Quote:
a) When defending a lead, you should consider defending little deeper. I suggest reducing mentality slider 2 clicks to the left.
b) Same when need to score goals, but in this case click 2 sliders to the right (and set D-Line to first notch of high).
Something like this (more deeper) (normal) (more offensive with D-Line first notch of high)

GK - Wiese (6) (8) (10)
WB R - Fritz (8) (10) (12)
DC - Naldo (4) (6) (8) -> leaves defensive mentality
DC - Mertesacker (4) (6) (8) -> leaves defensive mentality
WB L - Womé/Shulz (8) (10) (12)
DMC - Vranjes/Baumann (6) (8) (10)
MC (left) - Borowski (10) (12) (14)
MC (right) - Frings (10) (12) (14)
AMC - Diego (12) (14) (16) -> attacking role
FC - Klasnic/A. Hunt (14) (16) (18) -> act as "real" FC
ST - Klose (16) (18) (20) -> 100% attack on his mind

Obviously this is a bit theorical because you can change a bit -1 or +1 slider for each player

Excelent post Myst_ , finally i can play with a good defense using your how to play without ball .

In terms of Attacking i have a question to make you and to all that are trying to implement your concept. how are most of your goals?? because mine usualy come from a good tackle from the players are closing down more often and then they pass to one of the strikers.

So that brings me the question, Why use slow tempo , and give time to the other team to regroup, and not use a Quick tempo strinking the others when they are more vunerable??

I know this mentality is a bit different than the one u were trying to do, but it seems logical and the first tests i'm doing with the quick tempo are giving some good results!!

thanks

Kenntex,

How you doing with your team? Still achieving good results?

Up the gunners,

I´ll soon...

Vaskkinho,

I use slow tempo because i prefer lower chances but with higher quality.
Either way, main reason is because high closing down with tight zonal marking here and there will request lots os stamina from my players. I need to quickly gain possesion, so i play high tempo without ball. When team got ball, they can "rest" with possesion...90 mins of high tempo will screw my players physic.

Cheers
