Thought I would see what everyones opinions are on signing veterans for lower stature teams on big one year contracts?
I only ask this as my current game (Brescia) I have signed, Molina (38), Claudio Lopez (34), Dacourt (34) and all have performed really well in serie B.
The only problem is that I could only get them to play on 10k a week.
i always keep a few vets around... to teach the kids more then anything but also because their reliable in important games... always seem to be consistant imo.. especially in lower leagues
experience is useful at a certain level, but i've not found it necessary to be honest... i've taken hayes from conf south to league one in 6 seasons and the average age of my team has consistently been 22/23... this is usually because younger players are of course easier to pick up for cheap, especially those released by bigger clubs. and because i use the parent club loan system as much as possible as well
always very satisfying watching the youngsters progress as well...
I have played Genoa and Spezia, starting from serie C. I always try to sign a few veterans to help, especially ones from serie A. When I promoted Genoa to B, I signed Inzaghi and he helped us become promoted again.
Keep working on finding very good young players and you will be fine.
For me I don't care if he's old or young, as long as he can do his job. But I agree that age is the big factor I consider when buying players. This is because aged players tend not to perform as well as the youngsters.
