I always by a few veteran players, if only to give my squad a bit of experience and teach PPMs to my star regen strikers. Sheringham, Recoba and Corini, for example, are decently aged with some good PPMs.

It depends on my team
If Im a top division team, I tend to TL anyone older than 30.
If im lower league, then veterans tend to do the job as good as anyone.
Hope this helps, of course, there is always the exception to the rule, every now and then a player comes along who you just cant sell even if he is over 30

Are they worth the cash for smaller teams?
| Of course. People tend to just pick up youngsters because they want to build a long and successful dynasty. It just depends on what you're trying to do. If your goal is to get promoted ad those older players will fit your wage bill, then why the hell not sign them?
Typically, those younger players won't have the PPMs that the older players do. They are not just ballplayers but tutors as well. Older players are important in a number of ways.
They'll typically be a lot cheaper too. gL . . .

I really have to consider buying anyone over 25 on any of my games, im scared that the price i pay for them is too high and i wont get it back. I would rather try and play the game by getting players for about 2mill between the age of 18 and 20 and then sell them when they get to about 27 for 20mill! i can see the benefit of buying older players if your strap for cash but my only problem is the thought that they play really well and that will not last for ever, therefore if you do not have them you do not become reliant on them lol.
Sorry for the pointless post.

Experience is need for certain positions like a GK, DC & maybe MC. But it depends on your formation because you don't want old guys with 10 pace if you're playing a fast attacking tactic.
Look at keepers like Oliver Kahn, even in his 30's he's still an amazing keeper.
One big advantage would be that old players can train the youths and with experienced players, your team is less likely to make mistakes like a a team of youth players would.

experience irl is vital (remember the world cup? Italy and France had two very experienced squads), but i do not feel this is mirrored in fm where imo experienced players seem to be much less consistent . I hope this has been changed in fm08 and experience becomes much more important.

I guess the type of football you play does depend on how these experianced players fit in.
My teams defend quite deep and play a slow tempo so thats maybe why I can play Edmilson, Viera and Lucarelli at 33/34/35 years of age and they still perform v.well.

The only time old players have worked for me is when I have been managing Rangers. Probably because the league is a lot poorer. I have signed old players in the Prem when I have been promoted and it never paid off for me, but again thats probably down to the fact I play a quick tempo with Direct passing when managing newly promoted sides.
