does the editor actualy work for the mac? when ever i try to load the database it says the file is a read only, is there something I havent done?

You need to set the permissions on the dat files so that your current user account has permission to write to them.

It's not to do with editing, it's to do with file permissions.
Browse for the database files (server.dat etc) and right click (assuming you have a 2 button mouse) and click "get info". Then set the appropriate options in the bottom section where the permissions are listed.

yep done that bit, the owner says joshallen (my name) i'v unlocked the owner to allow for changes, the access bit says "read & write" guessing I need to change that, but it wont let me click on it.
Do I need to change the owner to something or . . . . ?

If I change the owner to any or the other options it comes up with eror code 165

You don't need to change the owner, you just need to be able to read and write to all the dat files. When you do that, doesn't it work? If not, then I'm afraid I have no idea and I'll have to redirect you to the Support for Macintosh Users forum...someone there will know.

when i try an laod the database it says "the client database iss a read only file and can not be opened for editing, but it aint,
