While I agree wholeheartedly that piracy is a strict no-no, and that a CD crack could be perceived as piracy, I also maintain a health concern that one day the inevitable will happen and I will damage the CD rendering it unusable.

As copying the CD would be construed as piracy I have no doubt, where does that leave one in pursuit of security of what is now, one’s personal property ?

I work in IT, and as I am sure the vast majority of people who does so would understand, backing up and securing one’s data is all important. It always seems ironic to me, that installing something like XP windows does not require the disc each time to function, whereas playing FM2006 does ???

There has to be a happy solution to this dilemma for the average user.

I too have played this game for many years, still do, and still love it too, but this is one area that I really do feel need addressing.

I am not advocating a “crack” rather a rethink of the licensing that goes with the distribution of the game, and the rights of the purchasing public.

Just my thoughts.

1. Buy the game.
2. Go on to the SI Editors forum and moan that FM Scout and MCFM06 have not been made available for use.(Optional step)
3. Download ArtMoney.
4. Download the Artmoney tables that allow you to edit the Current Ability and Potential Ability of players and staff.
5. Start the game and select any team.
6. Go into Preferences and set the Unique Id option.
7. Negotiate the maximum length contract with all your players and staff.
8. Write down the Unique id and date of birth for all players and staff.
9. Using ArtMoney edit the Current and Potential ability of all players and staff to 29000 and 30000 respectively.
10. Go on holiday and instruct the Assistant Manager not to buy or sell any players and leave the machine running.

The FM program will automatically update the attributes of the players and staff to match their current ability.

Oh what fun!

I can understand the thrill of getting the team that you support to do well. I admire the programming skill of the utility makers and the analysis skills of the people who make the ArtMoney tables. I am impressed by the willingness of people to share information on the forums, that enable people to play the game better in the spirit in which it was created.

SI have created a game (this is not real life) that is a lot of fun. There are a lot of different aspects to the game; training, tactics, man management, financial management and team building to name a few. The more effort you put in to these, the more rewarding it is when the teams results improve.

I defend the right of anyone to play the game in any way that they wish. However by using methods identified on the forums it is possible to eliminate all the aspects (and fun) of the game, if you define success purely by the number of trophies and titles won.

I can't claim never to have used an editor to find players that my scouts would not, or to boost some of the stats of my players, when I have had enough of five consecutive seasons of mid-table mediocrity in the third division. However, I find it difficult to comprehend why some forum contributors have bought the game and won't play it until one of the utilities available for the previous version has been made available.

And finally.

1. Computer software is never going to be perfect. It is not in the interests of SI to produce a game that does not work. It is impossible to test it so that it works under all circumstances. The more users there are, the more errors will show up. SI are pretty good at releasing updates to fix bugs. If you have a complaint complain politely.

2. People who make utilities for you to use do so in their free time, don't get paid for it and are willing to share their work. No one has a right to demand or even expect that these utilities are produced at all. If they are produced you should be very grateful.

3. It is possible to have an opinion without being personally abusive to other forum contributors. Moderators should consider banning abusive contributors. They add nothing to a forum and detract from the enjoyment of the civilised majority. Is a polite request for a CD crack really worse than personal abuse?
While worrying about how other people are playing their video game is pretty sad, it's even more sad to spend time typing it out on a message board. Other people don't know how to ENJOY the game like I do, boohoo.

I may find it difficult to comprehend why people want to coast with Chelsea or Real Madrid but I don't care in the slightest why they do it and I'm certainly not going to moan about it here. They obviously do enjoy it, find it fun and it's their game. It's doesn't affect your enjoyment so don't worry about it.
