Having played this for a while now I find myself in a little quandry. I am happy that SI have stopped it being possible to sign a whole new team on Bosmans, and I'm glad that you can't sign players who are far too good for your team, and I'm glad that they've tightened up the salary budgets...
Having said that...the difference in quality between divisions is RIDICULOUS!! I like the fact that you can't just stroll through the divisions anymore...but I can't stay up! Just get battered EVERY WEEK!
Played three games now, two with Cardiff and one with Newport County down in the Conference South. First game with Cardiff - promoted through paly-offs in 2nd season. Was doing sort of OK and then lost last 9 games in a row and obviously went down. Second game with Cardiff went up in 2nd in my first season. Seven points from the first three games and then went on a 28 game run without a win!!!
Playing with Newport I won the Conference south in my 1st season and have just been playing, won my first two games and have now lost 7 in a row!!
Seems familiar to me...
Is anybody else experiencing the same thing?
How are people coping with promotion?
Have to be honest, getting promoted just to get battered every week is not really doing it for me...
There is a lot of talk in 07 on these forums about "second season slump".
It would appear that the AI gets used to your tactics and unless you keep them fresh it will start handing you your butt on a plate.
I encountered this with Birmingham, got promoted (just) in season one and then got butt munched for the first few games, this is when I joined this forum and started learning from the people here. Using the Min Fuss tactic on this thread I started to draw games and win the occasional one. By learning how to tweek it to my team I started winning and finished 12th (which my board were not happy with, toss pots). It is possible to stay up. you just have to remember to play as the underdog in your second season.
Loads of people on here will help with advise, try one of there tactics that suits your team and give it a whirl.
The coming up and going straight back down bit is very realistic in most cases. Anyone remember Charlton and Bolton, they kept coming up and down for a while and all the time just kept strenghting the squad at a steady pace and not strengthen in 1 go and put the clubs under massive financial pressure.
You can come up and pick a few bargains up and stay up. If you are really weak, then its a case of playing defensivly and hitting most teams on the break.
Thanks, The Lambs, its useful to know that I'm not the only one. I've been using Minimal Fuss v2 myself and it works really well initially. I know what you're saying about them working out your tactics. hmmm...
Cleon, I totally agree with you about yo-yo clubs and I was happy enough to be one. When I got relegated with Cardiff I bounced straight back up and I then managed to make some great signings e.g. Parnaby and Walcott!! But still no luck.
Have you watched any matches to see why things are not working? You might notice a fair few things and where the opposition are damaging you if you look.
Also, your players might need time to settle in too.
I just read a really interesting post about using the match odds as an indicator of how to play. Gonna try that, yeah, players need settling in time. What I'm actually gonna do is try playing with Liverpool or someone and see what happens. I never normally do that but I may just do it to see what kind of results I get.
