Tactics & Training Tips

It's no use having a squad full of star players without a decent way for them to play their football.

Default Derby County - A few questions.

Ok.

Hello to everyone.

I am currently playing as Derby County on FM07. Im not doing to bad as Derby have a nice squad with a few good players.

However I have a few questions that hopefully you guys in the Tactics can help me out with.

Im not going to post my tactic and instructions because the formation is a simple 4-4-2.

Basically the questions i have are

1. For my two CM's I have one sitting and one attacking (still a flat not a diamond). Should my player who sits have a slightly less than normal slider or just normal. Also should his closing down be often, normal or rarely. I dont want him to play in the DM position, but I want him to play like a DM if you understand.

2. I have Steve Howard and Arturo Lupoli upfront in a big man little man combo. Howard wins all the flicks and holds it up and lupoli runs off and around him. Should Lupoli have a more or less attacking slider than Howard or the same?

Any help or feedback is much appreciated. I spent ages looking on here at loads of threads and they helped me know end so thanks to all for that, however I would love it if anyone can answer my questions.

Thank you in advance

Hiya. I don't feel like I'm an expert but I could give you my ideas if it'll help. If you want your central midfielder to play like a DM but not in the DM position, you should set him to 'close down often', certainly. I'm not sure which slider you are referring to, mentality? set it to defensive.

As for the attackers, I always set my strikers to 'all out attack'. Makes sense to me, that's all. And it seems to work.

Good luck

Thanks for the reply mate.

Will give it a try.

Yeah I was on about his mentality so I will put it to defensive

This is what i did when i was Derby and i came top of the league.

Have Steve Howard set as target man 'to head' as you probably know he'll win around 99% headers per game.

Put Howard's mentality a few notches less than Lupoli and have Lupoli on around 18. This should make Howard drop off slightly and his flick will go to either the SC (who will be further upfield) or to one of your wingers.

I'm in my 4th year with Derby in FM07 and Howard is the man for the first 2 years. He single handidly got Derby promoted in the first year for me using him as a target man. He simply dominated. Lots of good pieces with Camp in goal and Barnes in the wings.

Enjoy him.

Currently playing as Derby. Now in my 3rd season.
Just broke the bank to buy Defoe for 8 million. =)

Currently using Howard sparingly. He offers a different dimension to my game. Currently I am using 2 fast strikers with Defoe and Daniel Sturridge in attack. When I am looking for a late goal, I throw Howard upfront and usually he gets the goal or the assist. Very very good player.

For yr question 1, I think slightly less than normal and a high normal closing down. Dun put forward runs etc.

P.S. some advice for u, buy strikers asap. once lupoli goes back, u are left with 1 striker. And the board dun give u enough money to buy a premiership quality striker.
