To add to the fine original, Sampdoria are a fine challenge and a great game to play in Italy. A season or two of work should see you competing for the scudetto, and (who knows) maybe playing a rematch against Barcelona for the Champions league...
5 reasons to play as La Samp:
1 Great history - a team which featured many a star long ago and competed on the continent with the finest deserves a revival
2 Good squad - not the same level as Fiorentina or Lazio, but the team is strong, and once the injured players come back, it get's better
3 Fabio Quagliarella - see why Italy is hailing him as the new Azzuri hero
4 Salvatore Foti - When he returns from loan, you have a great striker waiting for you to unleash him
5 Challenge - Competing against the likes of Inter and Milan, facing of against Roma and Lazio - the Serie A is a fascinating tournament, and Samp is a great place to build from.
I started as the Doriani recently, and thought that I would have to bring in some players to givew me a base to build on. I asked for some extra cash, recieving around 8mil in total, then I put the club in the red by changing the back-room staff. I now have a good set of coaches and an excellent set of physios.
Quagliarella is out for a month, Bonazzoli is out for 3 weeks, Palombo is out for a month and Maggio is out for 3 weeks. I've been using Yakovenko and doudin up front. Yakovenko has been amazing, with 4 goals in 3 games.
Finished my first season at Luigi Ferraris. We had a good run, challen ging for the title, but a draw with Milan and a loss to Cagliari put us out of the race. In the Coppa Italia, we lost to Milan, and so ended the season trophyless.

The main reason for out lack of success was because of a lack of depth. After Pocognoli, I had no decent left backs available, and when Castellazzi was injured, I had no good keepers, as Costil is too young. I decided to spend big on the transfer market to strengthen the squad for next term. I picked up some Bosmans, including Jaime Valdes, but I missed out on the big prize, Marco Amelia, so I had to settle for Ivan Pelizzoli, who is a good keeper and should ginger up some competition. I also brought in Gasbarroni to strengthen the midfield, and Paro to replace Volpe. I then brought in Cesare Bovo to give me more options for defence, and tied up a deal for Armand Traore, who should give me selection trouble with Pocognoli. Lastly, I loaned Nicolae Mitea and Theo Walcott, to get some depth.
I usually play as Samp. Foti always turns out to be class (hopefully it hapens IRL too), Da Mota usually becomes pretty good too.
Its quite an old team though so after a few seasons you will probably not have many of your original squad left. The one thing i dont like is no matter how much success you have with them attendances stay pretty poor.
