Most of the games I play, I prefer not to sign anyone for as long as I possibly can. I try to work with the team I have - improve them in training and bleed in youngsters. Once I've gotten to January, I'll already have established the weakest area in the team and will have sent my scouts out to identify possible replacements, or look within my reserve or youth set ups for younger players I can bring through.
I prefer that to just starting games and buying the same 8 or 9 players, regardless of what team you are. Its not particularly realistic.
i prefer bringing through my own youth talent and bringing in say the best 16 year old players and training them up, but when your at the big italina or spanish clubs the presidents demand that you buy world class players.
I rarely sign anyone and certainly not for big money if I can help it. I sign players when the squad is either too small or too weak, not just for the sake of it. I become too attached to the existing players in my squad to just replace them at will so most leave either when they refuse to sign contracts or just become unhappy. I find it more important to go for the right players rather than the best players so spend quite a while trying to find the right player in my price range to fit the position.
I dont tend to buy much if I start out with a big established team which spent loads during the summer (most of them), but when I start with a small team I cant afford to wait 6 months as the team is usually c-rap.
I take the wenger approach and only sign if i need to, and the signing that i do make are either very young or players that will go striaght to the feeder clubs.
Dont really spend money hence why i still have 50m in the transfer fund. Couldnt pass up the chance of signing navas for 3.3m plus alex song though.
There are at least a couple of threads in the challenge forum, (Give Youth A Chance was the first), where you are in fact prohibited from signing ANY player or staff member EVER.
You have to rely completely on players that come through your clubs youth structure and you can only appoint staff who used to be players at your club, (I'm honestly not sure if they can leave and then be resigned after they become staff).
I generally only sign Bosmans and try to not sell anybody. I'm an American so it is sometimes rather difficult for me to put a monetary price on my players. I also generally play as relegation battlers, so I can't find much better players to buy and I don't want to sell my players to teams that I will be competing hard with during the season.
I dont sign much at the start most likely 3 or 4 but if im a relegation side like derby sunderland i tend to buy much dont really go out and buy big name signings or big money siignings untill i have improved as in getting clubs to uefa cup or champions league
