I rarely ever buy established players. I much prefer to raid the youth teams from other clubs and sign their best young players.

I've only found a couple so far in fm2008 through my first season but in fm2007 i had a reserve team of around 55 youngsters i'd poached from other clubs

Bosmans for me most of the time,i just replace any postions that are leaving............like to keep my squad number around 24 players

I rarely buy big name players on the game (but couldnt resist Messi on FM06 seeing as Barca practically gave him away )

Also i prefer to start at championship level or lower and normally spend most of my original transfer money on coaches, work with what i have and bosman it!

I always get to a point when I have a successful team to try and make a squad of only home grown talent. A few years back I was able to manage Celtic to constant domestic and European success as well as manage Scotland to Euro and World Cup titles. The Celtic squad was mainly Scottish with probably 3/8 of the squad coming from the youth squad. My starting XI for the championship Scotland squad were all my Celtic players. That was a great feeling.

Given that almost every team I start with lacks players in every position (I.e:NO left backs/mids)I have never gone more than a month without buying someone.

Once I have a reasonable amount of transfer fees and a decent reputation I will deploy the scattergun and buy 5-10 youngsters, hoping they'll work out. This generally provides me with at least 1-5 decent players long term. My reserve team is always full of capable players who could in a pinch play a first team game and not embarrass themselves.

If my scouts recommend a player and I can afford him he's mine. Don't care if I sign 1, 5, or 10 players.

Meh I don't trust my scouts so much. I listen to their advice but I don't always go by it.

When I manage Arsenal I as a rule don't buy anyone till a few seasons into game, the board say they are going to sack the accountant and give me the job. Cool eh?
