Beside selling players (nobody will pay for my players - the whole squad would raise less than £20k) and trimming the wage bill (the board are delighted with my wage control), is there anything else I can do to improve the club's finances?
I can't get a merchandising feeder in Blue Square North so that's not an option.
Confidence > Bank Balance is at rock bottom (any empty bar). The board "are distraught and devastated with the state of the club's bank balance"
Although the club has been knocked out of the cup competitions a little earlier than hoped, the league performances are good and topping the table.
What's most annoying is that the confidence has actually fallen - but I don't understand why. The bank balance isn't my fault surely?
Sadly, the board seems to hold you far too responsible for financial control. Equally sadly, finances are not the easiest thing to control.
The main advice I would have would be to check the Finances screen, and see where you are losing money. Try offering players that you don't need, but have value, with 0 up front, a little bit over 24 months, and a percentage sell-on fee, if you can.
Wage control is probably the main area you can improve here - despite them being pleased, it doesn't mean you're not still losing money. Probably the easiest thing to do is survive until the end of the season, and release as many players as you can - first team or otherwise. You can very easily get players of a similar quality for low wages on free transfers. Get rid of any 'prospects' unless they're playing first-team football, and have a fairly small squad. Be particularly careful when signing new players - try not to give signing on fees if they ask for them.
Hopefully you'll be able to get a little bit of money from that. If you're topping the table, you should be able to get to the Blue Square Premier, with its slighty higher prize money.
It's almost impossible to avoid losing money in the Conference Regionals. The advice I have is to spend as much as possible to get out of there and then get into the Conference National, where you will not lose much money and might even make a profit if you do well.

Thats exactky the advice I'd give. Go for broke in order to achieve promotion. If you fail, it could prove disastrous, but if you get promoted, you will find yourself in a much more secure position, and with higher attendances and televised games in the BSP, you financial situation is likely to improve quite nicely.
Try getting your reserves to play mini leagues with German top division 2nd teams who aren't in a league. I managed to make about £140k per tournament - one per week!
