Play them regularly in matches.
It's hugely important.
If you've signed a replacement for a player, sell the unnececary player straight away, while he has still been playing for the first team.
This can make the difference between getting £30m for a player and struggling to get £3m.
If you're trying to get rid of a player, then even bringing him on as a sub for 20 matches + a few starts will make a huge difference.
It's almost impossible to sell players rotting in your reserves, but transfer listing and telling these players they are not needed may help shift them on a free or foor well below their value.
Other than that it's easier to sell players when other clubs are interested, and during transfer windows.
And of course (it's obvious, but i'll say it just in case), when you want to sell, offer out to clubs.
