I know this has been done to death, and I'm sorry, but I just can't add faces to the game. I have been reading posts and searching for HOURS, so I am sure I've come across all the advice now. I have tried using photoshop, paint shop pro and fireworks but with no joy. I followed Ter's instructions and this guy's: http://www.abela-wadge.com/fmstuff/tutorial/ but nothing.
Basically I have created my 95x95 imges with 99% transparency. I have created the xml file, all correct. They are together in a folder in the 'graphics/players' folder and they just don't work. I load up my game and the pictures aren't there. No space where they should be, either, just the standard 'age' etc text.
What have I done/not done.
ps, the latest pictures I am working with were Paint Shop Pro ones.
Yep. I tried turning them off and on to see if it refreshed or something. This is perhaps a stupid question, but do the changes only affect new games and not previously saved ones?
No, new pictures will appear in old saves, at least all mine have.
This is how i do mine:
1. Cut the picture to size.
2. Add the border.
3. Save as .png
4. Close file.
5. Reopen file
6. Promote to layer
7. Click onto background and delete that
8. Adjust transparency o 99%
9. Save over original
All done, I use PSP7 as it's easier to use and runs faster than Photoshop.
The only two faults I can think of that cause a picture to "no show" areL
1. Forgetting to promote layer and delete background.
2. Not setting up the Config file correctlu to show new pictures on correct player IDs.
Thanks for your advice. I've tried promoting the layer in psp but it makes no difference. In fact, when I do it, it gets rid of the backdrop automatically, so none to delete - is that right (psp8). I tried it in fireworks too, but with 'flatten layer' rather than 'promote'. No change. The config file is correct, I think, and goes as so:
<!-- dont preload anything in this folder -->
<boolean id="dpre" value="true"/>
<!-- turn off auto mapping -->
<boolean id="amap" value="false"/>
<!-- logo mappings -->
<!-- the following XML maps pictures inside this folder into other positions
in the resource system, which allows this folder to be dropped into any
place in the graphics folder and still have the game pick up the graphics
files from the correct places
-->
Uh huh. That is my manager picture. I tried the newer way of fixing up a manager pic, but that didn't work - I do have the latest patch. I thought this way would at least be tidier (having manager and player pics in same xml). My pngs are all named after the players' unique IDs.
