Locate the xml file called fm colours. Should be in data\skins\skin_name\settings.
Make a copy of it incase you mess up/it goes wrong etc...
Open it in notepad (or similar)
Locate these lines, should be near/at the top:

Then adjust the numbers to match the colour of your background,
Your background image is best of being plain and only one colour.
To set a new background go here: \data\skins\skin_name\graphics\backgrounds replace the image called default with your new background.
I think you may also lose the match ratings of your players doing this. Though you could also have an alternative background where you can see the values, and stick that in place for the match screen (either manualy or via the background changes?)
