I can't believe that Nygreen and Mr Atkinson are the only people on the entire planet with the skills and knowledge capable of producing applications that helps us tweak or read hidden data from the game.
I remember the old days, even when the internet was available to a few, you could still do a search and pick up some useful tools. There used to be countless pregame and saved game editors and other applications... ok some were good, some were bad, some were really bad... but my point is there were there.
Now come on, are they really the only people with the skills to produce other programs?
If so why?
Just wondering... and I thought it might take some pressure of off Nygreen and Atkinson everytime there is a new release or patch (lets face it there is bound to be ANOTHER patch).
If you play any other games - have a look at what you can download for them, there are lots of tools available to you. Why not with FM? Perhaps there is a simple answer. If I had the skills myself I would help out.

OR just an idea? You could just play the game with out cheating... I know it is a mad idea.. But give it a go you might just enjoy it.. What's the worse that could happen??
You need a warning from the Mod, your arrogance and rudeness are not tolerated here.
Try being constructive and helpful, thats the point of the forums!
Ok, as much as I'm flattered by this, I am not the only person (and neither is Michael) in the world who knows how to read/edit data in the game. For a start, SensibleD is the main man behind MCFM, it's just that I have a greater presence here than him.
In the old days, loads of people made editors, utilities and the like. Now most of them work for SI (big wave to GK, Boah, Nygreen etc). The others went off and got jobs elsewhere, had families and had no more time for games.
The days of Miles' Files and Techcities has well and truly gone and you can't expect those days to return. Even saying the name Techcities (sp) makes me smile. I might just dig up CM2 and see what sites were around then, I'm that nostalgic!
The main huge reason why there are now fewer people around to produce utilities that take advantage of FM is quite simply that in terms of complexity of code on a scale of 1-10, FM is a 12 and CM (CM2) is a 4. Maybe I'm being too generous with FM and too harsh on CM but the fact is that these games are far more complex. I mean in CM2, you could edit the year and the game would skip on merrily without a care in the world. The code was less tightly packed together and values were too easy to tweak. No offence to the Collyer bros of course.
It depends what games you look at as well. You're generalising games here and that's not fair. You should be looking at the genres and comparing. Look at games like FIFA Manager and the array of community support. And you'll come back here and realise just how great you guys have things!

Thanks - that's just what I was looking for.

I haven't heard anything of him for ages. His editor was class though!
Good old days. Played the first version on 5.25" disks. I think the manual is green with a picture of an old man in a brown suit like he is scolding you. Its amazing to think how much the game has progressed.
I've created an editor once myself. Can't remember what version it was but it must have been nine or ten years ago. You could easily make your entire squad fit with one command.
But like Dan said, the save game structure was easy to read and edit. Nowadays not only the savegame is more difficult to explore but I also have a job as a software developer. And when I get home I just wish to play FM instead of create more software.
Another thing is that I used to be SensibleD's classmate. So in the old days we could exchange savegame knowledge. The people I now know playing FM aren't programmers.
