It's no use having a squad full of star players without a decent way for them to play their football.

would Liverpool's 'Playmaker' be Gerrard or Xabi Alonso...

say gerrard is attacking, everything 'goes through him'....yet people would say that Xabi Alonso creates the play because he distributes the ball, to people like gerrard who, 'make things happen'.

to summerise, is a playmaker a player who 'makes things happen (flair?) or a player who distributes the ball often and effectivly

Id say a playmaker is someone who distributes the ball for others to make things happen. Id say Alonso was Pools playmaker. A playmaker for me is creating chances for others.

Someone who makes things happens ia creative player which is different from a playmaker imo

so at Milan, Pirlo is a playmaker, and Kaka is just a creative player... a better example than Liverpool

Pirlo is the best example of a playmaker ever imo

Absolutely agree.

During the World Cup I saw some passing stats for various players. Pirlo was about 30% higher per game than any other player in the tournament. In the group stages he played almost as many passes as 2 of the teams in total.

The epitome of a playmaker if you ask me.

hmm but ive read somewhere that a dm could be played as a playmaker too.
would like to use my dm to imitate what makalele does for chelsea. sit back and distribute the ball out. any pointers?
To get the makelele type holding midfielder!

I would suggest:-

This is what I tend to use as a player keeping it simple in the middle of the park!

I'm playing as Lyon in a system very similar to the Liverpool system used by Benitez last year. It's a 4-2-3-1 with Juninho and Alou Diarra as my CM's. Juninho is set as my playmaker, but he doesn't have a free role.
