I wanted to start a short topic to gauge what success people have had with and without team talks.
As it is my favorite aspect of the game i have been going through the new 07 version gicing them but they seem to have little effect unless you use the wish them luck or nothing to lose option. If i tell players i am disapointed or angry we lose no matter what the situation and the do it for the fans seems to be 50/50 in effect when used against local rivals. Saying nothing always brings a loss, so i am toying with the idea of my assistant giving team talks.
What do you guys do??

Team Talk or not Team Talk that is the question. Post #2
Well, I think team talk matters a lot in the the game.
Sone example from a few friendlies:
before the games: there is no pressure...
in two of the games i was loosing after the firts half, on the half time chat i use:
"club pride is at stake"
and i won the games.
Opposition was milan and lyon
Btw i'm playing Arsenal season 3
Usualy using: can win or expect to win.
Rarely: don't drop your performance.
Btw if you are loosing on ht and playing with a good team (that for the team is just a guess i mean that i only play with Arsenal for now i don't know if the reaction will be the same with napoli fo example) whes you say that you expect nothing less then a win my guys usually win it (many games turned some even from 3:0, 2:0 it's above 90% i'll win it, 2 4:0 that result happened to me twice on the ht i lost 4:3 in one and drew another)
So the tem talk does matter a lot in the game.

Team Talk or not Team Talk that is the question. Post #3
I really dont like doing the team talks to be honest. I usually get an assistant manager who has decent determination and motivation stats and let him do the team talks. For now I prefer focusing more on the tactical and trainning side of FM. Plus the team talks thing sometimes slows down my computer for some reason.

Team Talk or not Team Talk that is the question. Post #5
I was not doing very well with the team talks and decided to put the Ass Man on it. I had started as a sunday leaguer (just telling the truth there), so I had little rep and little influence. After a couple few years, I turned it back on for 5 or 6 matches and for all 3 times each match, nothing was noted or they were not listening. One exception, some were delighted when I said good luck.
I had figured that after getting to be "somebody" as a manager, it would be different. It wasn't so I turned it back off. I think I need to reread one of those Team Talks - Here's How It's Done threads.

Team Talk or not Team Talk that is the question. Post #6
I don't do team talks. Let the assistant manager take care of them.
This is the only part of the game i don't like. To be successful at them you have to be a certain type of manager and get the cryptic talks spot on everytime or pay the price.
All different types of manager motivate their teams in different ways. Alex Ferguson is not the same as Arsene Wenger for example. Sir Alex is famous for the hair dryer, where as Arsene Wenger is softly softly.
Where the team talks are concerned if you do not fit the default type of manager you will give the wrong talk and ultimately fail. Or you have to conform to the default and then whats the point.

Team Talk or not Team Talk that is the question. Post #7
I've noticed, for most of the time, no reaction from the players after negative team talk (disappointnment, anger, not good enough, embarassement) at FT. This means all the players are nothing but a bunch of idiots or they don't care about the club, fans, etc.
I usually use the following team talks at FT:
- for wins - good result or sometimes fantastic (for good opp)
- for losses - sympathise (for good opp or after controverst), disappoinment, embarassing, very seldom anger
- for draws - depending on the opp
Moreover, I use player talks when they play better or worse than the team average:
- pleased for 8-9
- delighted 9-10
- disappointed 5-6
- embarassment 5 and below,
all the above depending on the player's good/bad facts during the match
I also don't criticise players who enter just a few minutes before FT unless they do something really stupid
The Ass Man thinks the players have developed a good level of understanding. So, why no reaction? And when I sometimes see "Didn't seem to be listening" (although it happened very seldom recently) I become more and more convinced they're all bloody idiots!
