I'm not sure whether i should ask this question in this forum, but it's also tactically related so i decided to post here.

i'm having trouble getting the best out of wayne rooney no matter where i play him.. he seems to get lost on the field, never wins any headers, not getting into good positions to score goals or to create chances...

can someone please recommend a good position to play him in and his playing instructions?

i tried to make him a target man playing to his feet, or run onto ball, but neither work to good effect.. defenders just clobber and eat him up.. my team ends up overly dependant on him and nothing gets going..

also, i have had to stop crossing completely since everyone seems to love to cross to him! he sometimes gets 20-30 attempts at headers and never win them.. i think this is a real setback for my tactics since i can't use crossing anymore.. all players are set on 'rarely' for crossing..

please help me solve my problem! thanks!

A lot of people struggle with Wayne Rooney. If you do a find of his name at the top of the page you will find lots of links where people have already asked this question and been answered.

Give Rooney a free role, some creative freedom and mix his instructions up a bit.

My advice is to send him my way in Everton so we can have a nice group hanging.

Very simply!

Use "MiNiMaL_FuSS 07" tactic,and put Rooney in the left FC position,let Saha or Alan Smith(Smith is better) in the right position and draw into Targen-men board,then you can also set Rooney "free role".

That's all,you can find Rooney become so terrible to your opponet

I use Man Unit,too. So trust me!

I have a good experience with rooney, i didnt believe it myself.


Im playing as ManUtd(doh) and Rooney wasn't scoring in almost 10 games. His form was like 10-8-7-6-6 something like that.

So i got mad and criticized him (player interaction). He accepted my criticism and the next game against arsenal the score was 6-0, 5 goals were from Rooney! And the next two games i won against tottenham, 4-1! 3 goals by rooney!

No, making him perform is a tactical issue. As for the actuall problem at hand, i think you should use him with a big target man at his side or as a AMC :cool:
