This will be more a long discussion that an actual tactic for download
I don't know what it is about this formation, but its one of them formations I like to create on every single version of the game I play. On FM05 I got this tactic about spot on, it was solid at the back and lethal going forward. It was a very counter attacking tactic, even though that was not the intention at the time I created it.
So I will be using this thread as a sort of diary, so you can see how I go about creating a tactic and trying to make it work. I don't have hours and hours to spend on FM atm, so if the updates are a bit slow in places I do apoligise. However I hope I have got enough time to update quite regular.
As you can see, its not your normal sort of tactic. The downside of this is that it's very vulnerable in places and will take lots of time watching matches, and checking stats to get it to a level where I will be happy.
I choose Sheffield United, because I know the squad and players pretty well on FM, so I have in my mind already the players I need to bring in. An more importantly I know what the current players are capable of.
So far I have played 3 games in pre season, first up was;
Lancaster Away
I ended up winning this 9-0, I was extremly pleased with how my side was attacking. Although its only a friendly and nothing matters what the scoreline is in all honesty, I still saw some signs of good link up play, passing and good movement.
As you can see, I totally dominated which was expected. But what surprised me was the amount of tackles I won over the full 90 minutes. It was very high and something I didn't expect as ive not set up the formation to how I want yet.
Next up was;
Bury Away
I didn't change anything around regarding instructions for his match. Everything was the same as the last game, I did this because I didn't learn much about the formation in the last game as it was an easy victory. I prefer hard games where you scrape a win or have to work hard for it. The reason I like it like that, is because you learn so much more when things go wrong, more so than when everything going right.
As you can see its was a pretty easy game and I won 2-0. They asked me more questions than Lancaster did but still not enough for me to change anything for the next game.
Next up was;
Farnbourough Away
I won this game 8-0, so again didn't learn too much. The only complaint I have is, I could create a few more chances maybe, but thats just being picky atm.
I'm itching for the season to start now, my players are slowly getting fitter and should be almost ready now to take the big guns on. I'm under no illusions about this tactic and realise it will not be as effective once the EPl starts. But i've got some dieas in my mind of what I need to do and things I need to look out for.
The mainthings I need to concentrate on will be the space in midfield between the AMC's and DMC's and the space on the wings too. I could be murdered by someone like Chelsea, who will no doubt exploit these weaknesses. So its upto me to create a strong base and make it solid.
Here are the instructions I used for the first 3 friendlies btw;
Team Instructions
Mentality 12
Creative Freedom 7
Passing 7
Tempo 8
Width 5
Defensive Line 12
Focus Passing Through the Middle
Tight Marking
Counter Attacking
If ive not mentioned anything, its the same as the preset 442.
Now for the players;
GK - 5 mentality, 10 passing and for everything else the sliders are set to 0
DR/DL - 8 mentality, 6 CF, 4 passing, 10 CD and everything else rarely.

I'VE TRIED TO GET THIS TACTIC TO WORK THE OTHER DAY. but it was like back in the day, 5-4 score lines etc.. will have to try harder. but its probably not used anymore for this reason. it's a pain in tha ass
It can be challenging yeah, but its worth it in long run
The way i recall the shape of the W-M (the way you made it in 05), was with the left and rigt striker at the RCF and LCF positions with barrows. Any particluar reason why this has been changed? I remember the LB and RB doing some beautiful longrange passes to the forwards in 05 - is it still like tkis?
I've been trying to develop this tactic myself in 07, with limited success. But i've had a bit success with a backline at 8 and the three defenders with a mentality set to 12. But still developing.

If you remember when I created the 05 one, the FR and FL were crap and never got into games. So I actually changed it to the shape if you remember?
I'm seeing small glimpses of what it was like on 05 yeah, but its still too early to tell if it will be as effective.
I just cancelled all my friendlies now, so I shoudl be testing it proeprly now. First game is away to Chelsea though
