Cleon, I'm interested to test your WM formation. but after couple of test here are some remarks :
1. I implement 5 unit for defence with direct pass ( DR, DL, DC, DMC, DMC ) and 5 unit for attack with short pass ( AMC, AMC, FR, FL, FC ).
2. The attacking system as your base but with FR & FL close down veru much ( The FR and FL make some goals forcing down the opp )
3. The DL i take is 6 and DR/L close down 13. But i notice the opp still get the gap and take the advantage. I dunno what to change as their Forward run is rarely as well as crossing etc. Mentality for all defence unit is 5.
4. I got too many goals from set pieces, this drives me mad any suggestions ?
5. The Attacking unit didn't create lots goals. My strikers : Fredy Adu ( FL ), Dean Ashton ( SC), Tevez ( FR ). Any suggestions ?
6. Do you use the playmaker ?
TQ

Trying this system with Sunderland at the moment, and though the potential is evident, the returns aren't as good as expected. For want of a little more involvement from my front 3, i've positioned as depicted in the above screenie, with the necessary barrows. However, the barrows werent having the desired effect defensively!

...I decided to lengthen the amount of back tracking on the wide forwards (to MR and ML), and this seemed to help. However, im beginning to feel that barrows and an attacking mentality are more antagonistic than complementary. I had to switch my forwards to a 'normal' mentality to get them to fulfill their defensive duties, and as expected, this took a fair bit away from side in the offensive third.

...Interestingly, i did try my forwards on a defensive mentality, with lots of pressing, and they were, judging from the 3D view, alot more involved in the game, as demonstrated by their ratings (both played at an 8, 2-0 victory over Barnsley away).

...I cant help but think we are all missing something vital to the success of this strategy, and thus, will persist with my experimentation!

I cannot wait until we have new development on this tactic as I have just too many AMC and F/SC in the squad to play a regular 442. :p

Cleon, having now gone 16 games into a championship season with Sunderland, of which the W-M has been at the helm since the off, i'm beginning to feel we are a long way from fulfilling this formations potential. Results have been average, but of note, far from impressive. 7th in the league, havent lost too many, mainly draws, but the lack of goalscoring opportunities being created, and the fact that my goalie has an average rating of 7.89 say it all!

...We need to work on this tactic, and sooner rather than later!

...I did extend the backward arrows of the 2 outermost forwards to MR/L respectively, and this ploy rewarded me with a 3-1 victory over West Brom, and and a 2-2 draw with Reading away in the cup. Perhaps that should be a possible feature of the final draft?
