Tactics & Training Tips

It's no use having a squad full of star players without a decent way for them to play their football.

Default Waldemar's Knock-Out

Hi!

I have developed a tactic that has given me lots of great results for my Valencia team.

I have tons of talent on my team, and I have won the league a few times.

On the other hand, I tend to loose to weaker teams in the knock-out stages of the Ch.l.

Therefore, I've uploaded the tactic on fmdownloads so you can test it.

As you can see, the tactic is based upon a sweeper system that is organized in accordance to what Cleon said on some other thread on this forum.

The wingback system is working great, and the strikers impress, especially the left one, who should be set up as the target man.

But, I am longing for an average rating over 8.60. The target man is closest, usually around 8.40 depending on his stats, ability etc.

Now, go ahead and tweak it to the better! Any insights would be great!

Ps: Tactic can be found at fmdownloads.net

Ok here is a brief overview of the tactic:

Goalkeeper:

Mentality: Medium
creative freedom: Medium
medium thru balls and cross

Sweeper:

Mentality: Defensive
Creative Freedom: lots
Passing: direct
Pressure: mixed
Tackling: Normal
Offensive runs:nope
Run with ball: nope
Long shots: nope
Thru balls: nope
Crossing: often (Cross from deep, towards target man)
Marking: zonal

central defenders:

mentality: defensive
creative freedom: little
Passing: direct
Pressure: Often (not all the way up there but almost)
Further: nothing on all the variables
Marking: zonal

wing backs:

Mentality: very offansive
Creative freedom: medium
Passing: mixed
Pressure: often
Offansive runs: often
Run with ball:often
Long shots: mixed
Thru balls: mixed
Crossing: often
Cross from: mixed
Cross to: mixed

DM:

Mentality: normal
Creative freedom: normal
passing: mixed
Pressure: often
Offansive runs: nope
Run with ball: nope
Long shots: often
Thru balls: often
Crossing: Mixed

Off. Mid:

Mentality: very offensive
creative freedom: lots
Pressure: lots
Off. runs: often
Run with ball: often
Thru Balls: often
crossing: nope

Left striker (Target man):
Mentality: all out attack
Creative freedom: YES! to the top..
passing: mixed
pressure: YES!
Off. runs: often
Run with ball: often
Long shots: mixes
thru balls: mixed
Crossing: mixed

If any variables are not mentioned, they are suppose to be as preset.

Further, the team instructions:

Mentality: a bit offensive
Creative freedom: normal
passing: mixed
Speed: fast (between medium and the top)
Width: above normal
Pressure: very much, almost full throttle

Marking: close
Counter attack
Use Target man

That's all.

Now, how come I don't beat the smaller teams in C.league but those in Primera div AND teams such as Barca, real etc?

Brynjar,

In an ealier post, you said to have the middle striker as the target man - now you say that it's the left striker?

Which one should I use - please advise!

great to see that the tactic is working!

Mike: If you download both tactics, you will see that the first one, "Waldemar's Knock-Out" has two strikers. The other tactic, has three.

So, using the Knock-out tactic you should use the left striker as your target man. Using the other tactic you should use your central striker as target man.

While we're at it, I can say that I used Waldemar's Knock-out first, and the other tactic, Waldemar's Stronghold, was developed on the basis of Knock-Out.

If you guys have any thoughts about the tactic, let me know! I am currently trying to develop it further.

to: wishhavoc: Yes, I have two tactics. Knock-out was first developed, and Waldemar's Stronghold is developed on the basis of knock-out.

At first, waldemar's stronghold seems very offansive, using three strikers. I was very sceptical about the tactic but actually it worked great. (See the thread called "average rating 8.70...)

Personally I don't swap between tactics from match to match. But, I am careful about the trends in the game. If I play 4 bad matches in a row, I might do some changes.

To answer your question about what tactic to use, I would say that it depends on your players. If you have more and better midfielders than strikers, I'd go for knock-out. On the other hand, like I did myself, I'd play the stronghold one. I love tactics with an offensive attitude
