Why does my Lone Striker nod on the ball to no one?
I'm trying to develop a 4-3-3 direct formation with a Target man holding up the ball.
FL --- FC --- FR
MC - MC - MC
DL - DC - DC - DR
The FL and FR are barrowed and i make them harworking to provide extra cover on the wings defensively
The Middle MC is barrowed to DM.
Cabanas is my Target man. His instructions are set to the typical on the Deck Targetman. My GK goalkicks and also sometimes my clearances are kicked all the way up field to my target man and he seems to flick the ball to nobody.
Seems like a waste of possession happens about 2-3 times a game.
Why is this occurring and how can I instruct my player otherwise.

It's probably because your target man's mentality is too high/there aren't any other players near enough to him. If you drop his mentality and tell him to hold up the ball and make sure that your FL and FR or more likely, your MCs are positioned close to him by adjusting their mentality etc and then he will often nod it back to them.

I don't think its because of his mentality. The MCs are positioned reasonably up close to him when my GK takes a goal kick. But the striker decides instead to nod it on up field eventhough there is no one there, and no one from midfield is making runs forward. All I want my striker to do is nod it back to my MCs rather than into space. Not sure why he doesn't do this all the time.
