Mission Improbable: Keeping WBA in the Premiership
Howdy all,
So I'm a first time FM2007 player (although a partizan champie fan from the old days). I've taken over WBA and after a promotion campaign where we barely broke a sweat I'm finding it a little tougher playing with the big boys.
Presently I'm playing 3-5-2 Defensive (which was a change from 4-4-2 attacking which got me promoted) with my team as follows;
GK D Kiely
CB G Bale
CB C Davies
CB P McShane
ML J Koumas/J Greening
MR Z Gera
MC A Song (my midfield destroyer)
MC J Obi Mikel (loan)
MC J Koumas/J Greening
FC D Kamara/M Chopra
FC E Johnson
I desperatly need some help. Currently I've won 3, drawn 2 and lost 11. The transfer window is about to open and I've only got £1.57m to spend I've highlighted defence and GK as my main areas of weakness - however I'm open to advice. I suspect I may have to sell either Gera or Davies to fund purchases; can anyone make any recommendations?
I'm playing on a large database with Scotland, Italy, France and England - so those obsure foreigners won't help much

Im 4 seasons in and hve just won the premiership and championsleague doublle. team is
enyeama,
halford, garay, schmoeller, robinson
obertan, gourcuff, sunny, guardado
eddie johnson , sturridge
Your team looks more than capable of maintaining top flight footie. I would suggest a more solid tactic.......
Go really defensive away.......mayve 4-4-2 with two holding central midfielders....
Away maybe stick with that formation
With my Charlton game I play a 4-2-2-2 formation.....but alter it between defensive and attacking.......
Also look at the teams your playing.......if they are predicted to finish above you then play defensive away from home as these teams will play attacking....and vice versa
Hope it helps

I would be tempted to switch to a more solid 4-1-4-1 utilising Johnson as a lone striker, Song as a crunching midfielder and utilisng your wide men to get opportunities.
Who have you got who can play right back?

I think if you focus more on a solid tactic you should get a top half finish ... My bet would be 10th or something.
Tbf i still prefer 442 the most because you've got 2 strikers instead of 1 lone striker who often gets outmarked by defenders, while 2 strikers open more space to work in.

first thing i would suggest is go more narrow with your width, it can really cut out goals against a lot. also 4-4-2 would be best! your a struggling team with only 3 defenders?! paul mcshane is a legend at CB! also give your wingbacks high closing down and tight marking and your CB hard tackling and no tight marking and go from there!!
