An English playmaker will never be as good at actual playmaking as a Spaniard or a South American, but all-round they'd be fine and could still be used as a playmaker. I've had Gerrard prom well when Alonso's been injured, and Becks can pass as well as anyone.

what welshace said, you can get a defensive type playmaker that defends but also passes and controls the tempo of the game, or you can get someone like gerrard or cole who play more attacking and drive play forward and make beautiful assists
