Just finished my second season at Juventus, finished 3rd behind Lazio and Milan in Serie A, won the Italian Cup and reached semis of the UEFA Cup...so not a bad season. I have ~25m to spend.
Buffon refused to sign a new contract and has left for Real Madrid on a free. I need a replacement - but please, no 'Ustari, Enyeama etc etc' talk please. I need a GK at the very top of his game with plenty of experience, veterans included. I'm just interested in people's experiences managing some of the big names, and whether they're worth the money.
In addition to this, I also need an experienced world class centre back, as my Kovac-Tudor partnership is getting a bit slow. I want to be challenging for the big titles this season. Barzagli is a no-go as he has gone to Milan, and Barca want £35m for Puyol.
I'm running a large database with the latest official patch.
I think for £25m you'll be hard pressed to get a world class 'keeper AND centre-back.
Casillas and Cech would be undoubtedly the best at that time, but to get either of them would most probably use up all that transfer kitty - or at least leave you with very little afterwards. Same would probably apply for Reina. Check out Artur Boruc. Should be 29/30 by now and for the money you'll want to spend he'll probably be about as good as you'll get without going down the Ustari/Akinfeev etc route.
You're not going to get a worldclass gk and cb for 25m but you can get very good players. For gk, if you want to stay Italian, go Amelia. Another good choice would be Kameni. Check out Angekl Bernabe and Benoit Costil too, if they got a good pa then you could be lucky.
For a cb you have much more options, Micah Richards, Gabriel Milito, Vidic etc.
