Are you by any chance playing a quick, direct passing game?

If so, although you're creating a lot of chances they're likely to be poor quality chances which are missed or easily saved by the keeper. A slower build up creates better chances that lead to more goals, having more shots than your opponent really doesn't mean anything.

It also seems apparent to me that whatever tactic you are using leaves you very vulnerable to counter attacks.

Would you recommend quick-direct at home and slow+short passing away??

Balls to it--tinkered and tinkered and did a bit more tinkering--same old story away from home--defeats, many goals conceded but outplaying them with far more possesion and at least three times more shots..How do you keep clean sheets away from home???

It depends who you are playing. If you are away and heavy favorite, then lay it to them with a quick tempo. If you are playing a top squad, then play it more defensive and slow the tempo down.

Quick tempo + direct passing will leave you venerable to the counter attack, and rarely works. I go with either quick and short, or slow and long with counter att enabled.

A lot of people seem to think fast tempo = lots of poor quality chances and slow tempo = a few good chances. Thats absolute balls, this has never been the case ever but people spout it like its fact. I play slow tempo and create tons (an average of 5 shots from within the area a game)of chances, so by that rationale most of my chances are GOOD, why then do i have a conversion rate similar to 1 in 5 of these so called good chances? What SHOULD effect wether your players score those tap ins or 16 yard drives is composure/finishing/decisons/long shots. Basically the way i see it: SI didn't want every game to be 5-5 shots with 2 good chances (your average REAL football game), but they also didn't want 0-0's all the time, so they made 6 yard tap ins a 50-50 (or less) and made ALL goalkeepers(relative to the league they are in) awesome.

I meant to say 6-6 instead of 0-0.

You allow too many goals :/

Maybe more close down on offensive players and less on defensive ones?

Imo its not unbelievable at all...

It seems like you are assuming that most posession + most shots on goal = win, which often is not the case in irl too...

+ the fact that away matches just are difficult this because the teams mostly play more offensive in these, thus harder to get goals out.

And as for tactics, its not only just a formation, team instructions, player instructions, etc. Players have to have some chemistry with eachother, otherwise the chances that will be created arnt optimal, causing no goals.

The game isnt that intelligent.

Also, if irl ManU, Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool go away to smaller teams and have more possession and far more shots they would win the majority of the time. I have done this with about two away wins in 12

I have this problem on my game as well. I make a great formation, win 3-4 matches easely. I even managed to have a 32 shots at home, vs opponent that had 0 with this formation (i won 2-0). But then I go away, and suddenly a normal 442 with linked cl and dl, isn't good enough. I start to get goals against on stupid corners and long shots.

What I find typical is that the opponent not creating anyhting in 15 minutes before they throw a bunch of passes around in your half, not dangerous at all, for about 30 sec (ingame time). Then out of nothing one player which is closed down by one of my players, shoot from 20 yards and pulls level. Time after Time. Eventhough I have 5 chances inside the 16 m, with Drogs, Franky and Sheva.
