Does your league affect the quality of youth generated?
Essentially, if you had a team in the Blue Square North/South with the same quality of youth training as Manchester United or Arsenal, would you still generate players with potential to be Championship quality (and therefore an automatic shoe-in for the first team), or would they be scaled down, to stop you generating such good players?

As far as i know regens's quality is dictating by the level of the national database (plus some random ones for foreigners). For example if you play in Norway even with perfect facilities expect PAs around 140-150 at best. This is because of average Norwegian PA (usually regens are a bit better than the average and as years pass).
If you play in england with all those inflated PAs you have a good chance to get top class youngsters from your academy.

In my experience I see a little correlation with regen quality and club rep. Clubs like Barca, Real, Arsenal etc generate a steady stream of good players. However they appear at other clubs too, from allover the world. I think Reputation, Facilities and Luck are the major factors.

Can the local population have an effect on this too? I would think that a London club should be able to attract a larger pool of applicants in real life (compared to Blyth). I think I read somewhere in these forums that stadium size was somehow coded in relation to the surrounding population in real life. Sort of like how they've coded the league reputations, I think.

To be honest the game should have some youth clubs which provide quality which do not even have clubs are just youth and boys clubs.
My football club just done a link up deal with a scottish and irish youth club. Hutchinson Vale which has produced a major crop of talent.
They also linked up with irish Local Boys club greenisland.
These should be in the game too. There should be talent hotspots. Scouts should be able to search with regions of a country ie in uk Norfolk, yorkshire, north east england. Each region would have youth and boys clubs which would look after these young regens. Clubs would then look at these clubs and pick youngsters to goto there clubs. Some of these clubs could be enticed to link ups so those sides get first peak or they let you know of quality youngsters.
We could even have a sort of skills day for released youth from the clubs. you could send your scout to these. Then if any worth it you could try and get them. Obviously AI clubs would be doing the same thing it would be as competitive unless you lucky enough to not get AI to spot him.
I think if SI could emulate youth setups more to what happens inreality then we would eliminate luck a bit more. It should be down to prudence of youth setups and scouting networks to unearth talent not so much luck.
Differing attitudes and advice to these kids should be present too some talented kids would like to go to biggest club available. Some would rather go to smaller level as chances making the grade would be greater or he likes the attention being a star youth player. Where he might not stand out so much if signed for big or biggish sides with talent in the youth.
The problem is even released youth from league 2 dont go to bottom clubs such as non league inactive or conference clubs to try and prove he has the makings to make it. There is no framework for this and we need the game to have some comeback kids.
I not sure leagues should effect quality. It all should be down to standards of coaching and ability of scouting. But even then the odd gem should materialise even the worst setup and facilities find that rough diamond.
