What is the 'error message'?

Where did you get your game?

If the disc is damaged in some way, then I would take it back to the retailer.

When installing, you can choose to "customise" the install. Do that, and just select not to install the Sega Extras

You don't think it is, or it definately isn't? I've never installed FM2005, but this was definately an option in EHM...I'd assume it was the same for FM

There isn't an option for the 'SEGA Extras' Graeme.

Take the game back to the retailer and ask for another one if the disc is damaged.

If they decide to be dicks and won't do that then you have the right to send it back to the publisher who must provide you with a new replacement disc in place of your scratched one.
