I have uploaded a Tactic in the FM downloads section. They are uploaded as JOCKS HOME & JOCKS AWAY tacs for FM 2007. There are also two pkm's of matches played using this tactic, one away against Wigan and one at home against Man Utd. I can't remember how to add a link to them on this post but if one of the mods could be so kind.
This is a home and away tactic I have come up with for FM07 which I have had a lot of success with. I am using the Vanilla Demo at present but would like it if some of you who seek tactics in this forum would like to test it out on the full game.
I was going to buy the new game in October but thought I would hang on until they ironed out some of the bugs. Now I shall wait until Xmas as my daughter wants to buy it for me as a present.
I had previously posted a tactic “Jocks 3 at the back”here with which I had success in FM05 and FM06. I only had to do a minimum of modification to get my FM05 tac to work with FM06 but found it much harder to get it to work on FM07. In fact in the end I gave up as I had the same experience as so many others, winning/losing streaks, losing 2-0 leads to last minute goals, wonder goals and miracle keepers etc. I uninstalled it and went back to the comfort zone of FM06.
A couple of weeks back when my daughter asked if I wanted it as a Xmas pressie I thought I would try the demo again. I also spent a lot of time reading up on it both here and at the SI forums. Threads I found particularly interesting and knowledgeable were the Rooney tactic, Wintermutes Fm tactic and especially wwwfans tactical discussion thread. Also bits and pieces of SuperSaint , Rashidi and Cleons views and theories have influenced me.
The tactic I have come up with is far removed from my previous tactic. In fact I think the only thing left is my set piece instructions. I have taken the team formation from one tactic I believe it was the ROT tactic, as I had found that the DMC position so successful in 05/ 06 didn’t seem to work as good in FM07 and found that the attacking MC / defensive MC seemed to be having more success. The rest has been achieved through trial and error and deductions from the articles mentioned above.
I would have taken some screen shots but couldn’t remember how. What I have done though is post the Home Tactic (attacking) and the Away Tactic (defensive) and the PKM’s of my last two matches, which were away against Wigan in the League Cup and at home against Manchester United in the Premiership. I always play with Liverpool as they are my team and every time I have played against either in previous versions of FM they have always been hard games to get a result in. Watch the pkm’s to see how this tactic works.
I have had to change a lot of my thinking in regard to FM07 as to what makes a successful tactic in both team and player instructions. The home tactic is an attacking mentality playing wide with direct passing and 1st click normal tempo. There has been a thread running lately on the connection between CD and D-Line. I used this on my 3 at the back tactic without realising it. In 06 Cleon had a theory on 100% CD which I tried. At the time I found that my tactic was best at a slow tempo. When conditions were wet/windy with that tactic I would reduce the tempo to 0. I never ever lost a game in wet/windy conditions but never experimented with a winning formula, so I never really thought much about it until I read Supersaints theory. With that tactic I used short passing but found that direct passing suits this one more. I have used the current CD/DL thinking of 12/8 for the Home tactic and 8/12 for the Away tactic. For the Away tactic I have used Wingbacks instead of Fullbacks and AM’s with sarrows instead of wide AM’s playing a narrower formation.
Because both formations use the same player types and the player instructions are the same it is easy to change tactics during a game as well as using the tactics individually. The only players who have changing instructions are my strikers who I play to their strengths, so depending on who is playing on the day I change this accordingly also when I substitute a striker during a game.
In my 05/06 tactic I found that individual player instructions based on a players strengths were best but with 07 I find that fixed instructions work best apart from the strikers.
I still believe the tackling option is more to do with Clean, Tough but Fair, Dirty, than Easy, Normal, Hard, so my tackling remains on Easy ( Less yellow and red cards and not so many chances for the AI to stop the flow of the game to disrupt your attacks.)
I always reduce the tempo to two clicks slow in wet/windy weather this then gives you the option to reduce further at half time which the AI will see as a plus for your team.
I never substitute players unless they are injured or obviously having a bad day at the office ie less than 7 in the last 20minutes of a game. If you sub a player for no good reason other than the score is 0-0, 1-1 etc you can guarantee the opposition will score within minutes of your change. It is amazing how you will score one or more goals in the last ten minutes if you just hold your nerve. You can change your formation easier than make a wrong sub I find.
In the first pkm the league cup match against Wigan I played the more defensive away tactic and won 2-1 although it was all one way traffic and should have been a lot higher. Nonetheless it was a good result as every single time I have played Wigan in Fm, they always seem to give me problems even more so in cup matches.
In the next pkm against Man Utd. Prior to kick off they were in 7th place on 19points and I was in 4th place on 20points so I knew it would be tough and the AI would be against me from the start. I had played Arsenal who were top of the league with two games in hand and 3 points two game weeks previous and decided to play my away tactic at home it being slightly more defensive. At half time it was 0-0 but they were all over me and so I decided to change to the home tactic came out and won it 2-0. I decided to do that as well in the Man Utd game. It didn’t quite happen in the same way as before and was a bit of a nailbiter to be honest but nonetheless we won 3-2 and it proved to me that I am on the right lines with these tactics.
I would hope that some of you with the full game would like to test this tactic out and let me know how you get on with it and see if you can improve on it.
As I say I always play with Liverpool and I have the inherited squad with the addition of the Steau GK J Blazek bought for £800k , Anthony Vanden Borre bought from Anderlecht for £2.9m, Thomas Sivok and Emile Mpenza £2.5m each. I sold Dudek to Sampdoria for £2.2m.
In FM05 it was best to have two rotating teams as a first team squad and it worked very well. However this did not work so good in FM06. I think that the two team system will work well in FM07 if my results with the demo are to go by.
My team is at present;
GK’s : Reina , Blazek.
DC’s ; Carragher, Hyppia, Agger, Palleta.
FB/WB’s ; VandenBorre, Finnan, Riise, Aurelio , Warnock.
MC attacking ; Gerrard , Sivok, Alonso.
MC defending ; Sissoko , Alonso, Diao.
AM’s ; Garcia , Kewell , Pennant , Gonzalez , Warnock
SC’s ; Bellamy , Kuyt , Mpenza , Crouch.
