Im using a 4-4-2 box with a third division Brazilian team and I'm having good results considering the quality of the club.
One thing I've found effective is to have all 4 midfielders hold up the ball with a quick tempo. </BLOCKQUOTE>
Hows that work out? Hold up ball and a quick tempo is kind of 2 conflicting instrutions id have thought. Quick tempo means you want them to hurry the movement, then on the next hand you telling 4 midfielders to not rush and hold the ball up? </BLOCKQUOTE>
I had always thought they were conflicting as well. But a problem I was having was my midfield was giving the ball away with hasty passes. Slow tempo was ok, but I wanted to be able to a quick tempo, especially at home. So I gave all 4 mids hold up ball and so far, it has really helped possession and completion percentage. I average 55% or so possession and 85% or so completion. Before my possession was in the 40s and completion would sometimes dip into the low 70s and 60's.
I want to test it further, as Ive only used this method for about a season. It may completely unravel.
