It's no use having a squad full of star players without a decent way for them to play their football.

So here it is, the flying 5-2-3. Don't expect great succes right away. Right now, I would describe it as "promising tactic." With some good help this will become a "wonderkid," and eventually a "world class tactic."

So please be patient with it. Please post results here. Try to at least watch your highlights and tell me what's nog going well. And very important: what IS going well?

Here it goes:

Flying 5-2-3: Home.
Flying 5-2-3: Away.

Good luck!

Well surprisingly, someone added me on MSN today, telling me that it had been working superb..

I'd love to hear results from you too Binniboy, please keep me informed!

The current tactic has been working really well for me too, I just find it difficult to say in how far this is due to the qualitity of my players..

Start a game with with a Conference North/South side or some minnow in Norway and answer your own question. I'm gonna give this tactic a run when time permits, meself.

Darkhorse - I'm not as good as Chelsea or anything.. I would be like Everton I guess, so I guess my results are pretty representive

Definitely worth a try. i foresee my Sunderland squad to do just fine with Allan Smith as the target man

Joris - thank you for your tips for the back line! I've pushed my midfielders back into the wingback position, as you suggested, and this has had a good effect defensively. I'm playing the same shape as your 5-2-3 now, but with forward arrows on the WBs and the MC, as I feel that this gives helps to close the gap between defence and attack when I'm moving forward.

The tactic seems very solid defensively and I've found that my attack has improved when I push up the defensive line (~14) and don't rush to get the ball forward too quickly. I've just had a look at your tactics and, interestingly, my team and player settings seem quite similar to your home tactic, which I guess gives some validation of these settings.

In terms of results, I'm on a 12 match unbeaten run in the Conference North. We're not exactly setting the world alight with our attacking football (most wins are by one goal) but I get the feeling that this is at least partly down to my players poor first touch, passing and crossing. Incidentally, the main difference between my player settings and yours seems to be that I've got passing a few notches higher on most players and mentality a few notches lower, a decision influenced by the quality of my players.

Sorry short post, really gotta get some sleep now

Gramstrup - A big guy up front would be very good, just don't make him a target man! Focuc passing down flanks and using a target man seems to be a real bad combination. Not sure why yet, it just doesn't work.. Someone in the other thread noticed it, and he was very right about it.

Apg26 - good to see your having success with a similar tactic! I'm not about the mentality settings myself.. This formations seems pretty defensive, that's why I've upped the mentality a bit. Also, the longer passing could be a good thing. Right now I'm experimenting with higher tempo, and somewhat narrower width.

I think I'll report back tomorrow with some findings..

Firstly may i just say what a good post this is, far too meny people post just saying heres a good tactic without any other info on these forums.

My team is doing well with this flying 5-2-3 tactic my mentality is attacking, passing short and tempo slow.

I was just wondering how high my defensive line should be? Ive set my width to wide, nearly at top of bar. My focus passing is mixed. Should this be set to Down Both Flanks. Ive also got Target Man set. Is this right?

With my wingers should i put forward arrows on them?

Joris,

I'm starting a game right now with Norwegian minnow Stord Sunnhordland, the club's total value is the princely sum of $30K, and I'll be using your Flying 5-2-3 home and away tactics. Should be fun!
