If you've already gone narrow then i'd move passing and tempo up about 3 notches, then at half time change passing to the flanks.

Played some matches with Spurs and I'm doing good at home altho I'd wish I could score more than 2 goals cos it gets too exciting when the opponent pulls one back! U ever sit back and defend a lead or u just keep attacking ?

It's very early days with this (as Man Utd) but it's a very exciting way to play.
I'm only three games in but have notched up three wins including an away win against Liverpool, where I went one nil down. All three games I've seemed to swarm all over the opposition.
One question, the CM with the farrow is marked as a free role. Do you think this is important? I only ask because Carrick is probably my best midfielder but I don't think it's suiting him. I could play Rooney there but then he's (A) out of position and (B) taken away from the centre forward where he's playing exceptionally well.

Betis_DK - Got admit that happens to me also, but after awhile i feel comfortable with it as i'm always good for a couple of goals. Sometimes i go with the time wasting option but sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't.
OohAah: Pleased to see it's working, so far, with Man Utd as i wasn't sure. If Rooney's excelling in his position i'd leave him there.
The free role is not that important anyway, just something i was using at the time. It works for me so i left it on.
Any tactic should be altered to the players YOU are using.
You right side striker should be getting loads of goals, if he's not your using the wrong kind of player! With Nuneaton i signed Ben Wilkinson when i started in the Conference North and he has been my leading scorer EVERY season. Even now in Division 1 he's still banging them in!
But when he's injured his replacement is not as effective.
In the lower divsions you need to find a striker with good Finishing, Composure and Pace, it can be hard to get a one with all three but you only need one.

| Well, so far my left striker is scoring the goals so what do u look for, I mean, what kind of striker should play left and what kind right? I like to use the tall/small and pacey combination, and u?

Andy, I keep losing away in the Premiership, play fairly well but the AI always has a high scoring advantage. I like this formation at home but away its not working for me at all. I try to the adjudgements u mention but no luck |

Although it is an advantage for one striker to be a 'header' i try to use fast strikers.
Away games has never been a problem for me but now i'm in the Premier it's different.
Home record fantastic, but away is letting me down.

With Sunderland in the Championship it worked well, with Nuneaton it has worked in all leagues so far but Sunderland in the Premier...
Played 12
Home 6 - Only Chelsea took points of me at home, beat everyone else including Liverpool (3-1).
Away 6 - Lost 4 games.
Still hard to be critical of the tactic though because the big picture shows Sunderland 5th in the Premier - that is better than i expected.

Well, it seems this tactic is too attack-minded for the PL. Might give it a try later with Crewe or with a team in the lower Danish Divisions. Good try, tho |

I have to say, I haven't had any worries with this away from home. I've only lost once away so far and that was to Chelsea when Cech had an absolute stormer.
These are my results so far since switching to the tactic. My last game against Liverpool is the first game in which I didn't have far more shots than the opposition. Even then I seemed to be in a fair amount of control with Liverpool content to take long range efforts.
For such an attacking formation, it's been quite solid defensively as the results will attest to. I'll let you know how things progress from here. |
