I would like some clarification on this aspect of scouting.
One of the tasks you can assign your scouts to is to scout a competition. As I am playing English League this allows a scout to scout an entire division and give all the players asterix ratings in about 1 to 2 weeks. I am perplexed as to whether this is realistic or not.
On the one hand there is no way that the scout can see a dozen games live in a week or two. However, he could watch tapes of games or analyse match reports and match statistics to get this info.
I sometimes use this task of scouting to find loan listed players in higher divisions. I then individually scout the players that seem to fit my needs.
What are the thoughts of other Llamas regarding the realism of this?
I don't think its realistic in the sense that it rates every that way. But the way scouting individual teams/countries/regions works isn't realistic or effective either in CM 03/04.
So I think a compromise is to do that competition scouting once a season and then target players for individual scouting from that. It's not like you wouldn't know who all the players in your competition are anyway. And scouting a competition doesn't reveal all of their attributes.
And we all know how (un)reliable those asterisk ratings can be anyway
I tend to scout my home nation and then. if i hear good news reports on a player go and check out their team. (many a good player has his team mates to thank)
I feel that a lot of the time a manager will send a scout out looking for a specific player having played agaist them or having heard things on the grape vine.
though this maybe a question to put to our resident LL club chairman
