Is the overall difficulty in satisfying board expectations roughly the same as previous versions?

Will it make a huge difference if we told the board that out team would win the league but then we tied for first place with another team and the other team won as the had better goal difference? Will the board be more forgiving for coming so close or will the result be the same?

Keith, if you're reading this, can you address the question "Will the board have more loyalty to us if we've had five-plus years of success at the team, and then undergo a dip in form for the sixth season?"

Raised today by LorneC in: Board Loyalty?

For background information see also: Sacked and not happy with the board

And dafuge's classic Manager sackings after board takeovers - should they be in the game?

On page 2 of the latter I suggested the Club Legend status, which I'm thinking becomes more and more important as the emotional depth and attachment we get to our save games grows, especially for those who have brought a club up from the Conference.

I've got the same concerns as sebsy and lloydy_cardiff, as discussed in other threads:

League Cup and other minor competitions: Board objectives

Especially with a "Big Four" type of team, neither fans or board expect you to win every competition out.. or even to take every competition seriously. It would be neat if the game-board recognized that - even to the point of not rating it "much success" that we won the League Cup. "Yeah, that's nice, but what else have you done, kid?"

Happiness with youth transfers: Fan/board expectations in FM08

I think its really clear that the board shouldn't expect every single transfer to make an immediate impact - there's plenty of us who play for the long term, spending money to acquire prospects who obviously aren't going to feature in the team their first year.
What he said!

Personally, I am VERY HAPPY with the inclusion of this new feature in FM 08. I wouldn't be lying if I said, it is one of the major reasons I'm buying this game.

However, like any other great thing that was initially introduced to CM/FM, at first there are some bugs that come with it and things that need tweaking.

Once SI read and understand those threads linked above and manage to fix it via a patch, then everyone can see what a brilliant feature this is and just how much it adds to the game!

Until then, if anything, it can frustrate some people at times.

I have faith in SI guys to fix those problems however and I'm sure it'll be done, so thanks for including this in the game because it was much needed.

Your board will state their minimum expectations regarding league performance to you at the start of the season. They will also allow you to increase these expectations if you feel that the team can achieve more. If you are feeling confident and believe that you can do more then they will back you by increasing both your transfer and wage budgets to reflect this ambition. However, fail to meet these inflated expectations and you could find you way of the club. The choice is yours!"
Aidy Boothroyd's going to get sacked so regularly...

When I play as a top team I am never interested in the league cup and should be able to tell the board that I see the other competitions as far more important.

I don't see the problem.
If the board (just like your boss at work)has certain expectations from you & you decide it's not importent, you should be ready to take the heat for this decision.
That said, I'm guessing that should you succeed in outperforming other expectations then they will be more leanient.

That may be true for an entry-level worker, but for an officer of the company, a good executive solicits the officer's opinion as to what the goals should be. Or hands them problems, and says, I want it solved.

My "Qualify for Europe" example, above: now its up to you whether to write off the League Cup, or to focus on it as a possible path to Europe.

I'd like an option off of the board to state how you are going to take every competition. Like you get a bigger wage/transfer budget if you say you can win it.

The increase in the wage/transfer budget would depend on the reputation of both the club and competition

Unfortunatly I won't be able to purchase this game for a few weeks oh well, it happens.
