I've searched these forums but not found an answer to what I want to know.
I'm currently managing Nigeria. It's 2014 and there isn't much new talent coming through so I'm looking for other options. There are several quality players with second nationality Nigerian that I can't call up to the national team. The two in particular are Nedum Onuoha (27, English) and Sunny (25, Spanish). Both were born in Nigeria so they are definitely eligible for the national team. Niether have been called up to the full England/Spain squads but both have U21 caps. Both have "internation happiness - None".
I think I should be able to select these players for Nigeria - they're half way through their careers and havent been called up for their supposed main nationalities so surely by this time they'd be looking at other options. Not to mention that Nigeria are currently 1st in the world rankings and wont be much less reputable than England or Spain.
At the very least I'd expect to see something under their international happiness stating that they were waiting for a chance to play for England or that they had no interest in playing for Nigeria, or something.
I've also noticed some strange things about younger players, U21 internationals and their chosen nationality. You'll have a young player with dual natioanlity, say Nigerian main and English second. He'll get called up to the England U21 squad and become English with Nigerian as second nationality. At this point he'll no longer be eligible for the Nigeria U21 squad, but if he's called up to the full Nigeria squad and makes an appearance he becomes Nigerian again, with second nationalities English.....and Nigerian!? To top things off he'll now be eligible for the Nigeria U21 squad again.
Can anyone offer any clarification about the rules regarding this because I'm pretty confused at the moment. Is this another part of the game that was released unfinished or am I missing something obvious..
I think the rule is that once you have Under 21 caps, you can only change countries before the age of 23. So both those players you suggested would not be eligible. I'm just speculating though. No concrete evidence, just stuff I believe to be true
