is there anyway of activating this player and similar players like this, as when you are on the squad screen they are blacked out and you cant buy them.

If he means virtual players, they're 'greyed' out for a start! :p

I get the feeling that there was supposed to be some kind of picture in there as well since you keep referring to 'this'.

The only way you can activate them, is if you offer them a contract.
