I've read the posts about team talks, when to encourage, etc... but I was wondering if many people use individual team talks and to what success. I've never really concentrated on them until recently. The most I've ever done was tell a player I had faith in his ability if he had low morale going into a match or give a player a kick up the backside if he had a really low rating. Both seemed to do the job fine. In my last match I tried something different. At half time I had 3 players who had a rating of 8. The rest of the team all had 7's. I was winning 1-0 at home after dominating the game. I set the team talk to pleased for the whole team but I told the players who had the rating of 8 that I was delighted with them. The result was fantastic. 1 player scored, 1 got the assist and the other ended up getting the m.o.m award. I guess that I should concentrate on this area of the game a bit more! Has anyone else had good success in this area of the game ?
I have also noticed that praising (saying "Pleased" or "Delighted") players with 8+ ratings often inspires them for a second half. Telling "pleased" for a player with rating 7 (if others were underperforming) may be risky as depending on mentality player might be disapointed at his manager (gets PR with description "thinks it is too easy to please manager" and morale goes down).
As said earlier, in pre-match talk I usually encourage players with negative PR, low morale. It seams to help. If team morale is at Good/Okay morale, I encourage captain, but not sure if it helps at all
I just do it on a team basis. Interesting to read your thread though, maybe I should be more specific.
Now I know that attention to detail is normally a good thing, but do you guys actually play any games? It must take you a decade just to get through preseason!

If for you the game is just "download the miracle tactics, buy players recomended in forum and just click continue until won every prize", you don't need details. But for those players who wish to find their own route to the success (tune tactics, scout for players, etc), every detail counts.
Certainly before the patch, pre- and during game team talks were a nightmare. Morale fluctuated far too much and some of the player reactions were farcical. How can a player be " semms motivated, angry"? Are they better after the patch as I havent installed it yet?
Still not convinced team talks are worth the effort, started a new game post patch with Bognor Regis in the Conference South and we are sitting pretty at the top of the table, with my ass man having handled all the team talks.
We recently have come back from 2 and 3 goal deficits after half time, so whatever he is saying works.
And this is with an ass man with extremely poor stats as for some reason Terry Venables and co weren't tempted by the £50/week part time contract that my board were prepared to offer
Before a game I tend to only give individuals to a few players, based on their overall personality & morale.
For example, I find that telling Scott Carson and Sissoko that I have faith has upped their avg rating for the season by about 0.5.
In contrast I often tell Stuart Downing that I expect a performance (he also has a high influence - which may have some impact?).
At half time I try to be fair, giving standout players credit if they deserve it - and encouraging or berating players who are below par, again dependant on personality/morale.
At full time I credit the top two or three, and may tell the odd one that i'm dissappointed.
