Arsenal have a slow tempo. If you set your tactics to slow you'll see the traingular passing that Arsenal do when the AI is in control of them. A fast tempo is more like Bolton, closing down every player on the ball quickly.

Arsenal most definitely do not have a slow tempo. They are smart and patient though, with lightning quick counter attacking.
Or, as someone else already pointed out, they sometimes play a little slower but explode into openings.
There is no away to recreate this in FM because FM is nowhere near detailed enough.

There's so many differences of opinion on here as to how the Arsenal actually do play!
Like I said in my post above, I believe that Arseanl play it quite patiently at the back/midfield then burst into life in the final third with quick passing and lots of movement. Unfortunatly, at the moment, we cant specify that we want a slow tempo in our own half and then speed it up as we move into the oppositions half.
In theory the best way to achieve this would be to follow wwfan's TT&T quide, read it if you havent by the way, and set the team up as he suggests for an away game with counter attacking ticked so that your players speed the game up as they attack.
The problem that I found with this, for home games, was because Arsenal are a big club and only Man Utd, Chelsea and Liverpool would come to the Emirates stadium and look to attack, and this lead to me scrapping the counter attack game as it was just playing out too many draws at home.
Away from home the tactic worked a treat, beating both United and Chelsea 1-0.
I gave rarely instructions for crossing the ball to all players, and through balls to all players except the 2 central defenders.

yeah same is happening to me davehanson against the big teams my tactic is killing them against the lesser teams i a m stryggling to score more than one and eventually rthey score but i am still tinkering and i hope to get it right i think it is important to make triangles on the pitch so there are two options for each pass the one problem im finding iis that my full backs are still lumping it to much for no reason that i can see maybe something to do with with no timewasting.

I've just developed my own 4-5-1 with Arsenal based on the formation that they played against Reading on sunday. Works quite nicely at the moment.
Short passing/slow tempo (5/5), low CF (5), high closing down (14), low time-wasting (5) high width (14).
Mentalities:
GK: Default.
RB/LB-Eboue/Clichy: 16
CB- Toure/Gallas: 12
DMC- Baptista: 12
MC- Fabregas/Rosicky 14
AMR/L- Hleb/Van Persie 12
SC- Henry 14
Forward runs often for full-backs and Cesc/Rosicky. Lobng shots set to "rarely" across the board.
Probably forgotten more, but that's the gist of it. I think.

Oh yeah- I give 14 CF to Cesc, Rosicky and Henry. Run with ball often for wide men and Henry.

Arsenal would probably as well have a through the middle focus and play slightly narrow, it is quite rare to see them play down the wings and put crosses in, normally they slice teams up through the middle.

OK thanks for the help but I think I need to explain myself a bit more. I don't want to use this tactic with Arsenal. I want to build a team up with this tactic, maybe from the Championship so has could this be adapted?

What I mean by that is they will knock the ball about quite a bit in the midfield area until they sense a good opening, and then bang, they just speed he game up, this is how they catch a lot of teams out.
For what it's worth I created a tactic for Arsenal.
Slow Tempo
Short Passing
Front Players had a lot of CF
The defensive line is set to the first notch of deep, this is how Arsenal suck teams onto them to break on them.
Counter Ataack is on for Away games, tried it at home also, but found that it didnt work.
No player is set to cross the ball often, as you very raley see Arsenal sling balls into the box, but all my midfielders, both full backs and Henry are set to through balls often.
| This sounds precisely like the tactic im using right now hehe. Works great at home, but a bit weak away.

Arsenal are probably play at the fastest tempo than anyone in the EPL

Having watched them play quite often this season (my girlfriend keeps dragging me to matches) I would agree they have a slow tempo. I might even go so far as to say that they have reasonably high timewasting.
I say this because the amount of times, even in the final third, that Arsenal look to pass rather than go forward is astonishing. Against Tottenham Adebayor made an amazing penetrating run then put his foot on it and stroked it back. Even their centre backs passed it backwards!
They used to be amazingly quick on the counter attack and a joy to watch, but now they seem to play a 0-10-0 formation which results in beautiful passing play but little else.
In my girlfriends own words, their tactic should be called "Lesbian Sex" - great to watch, but absolutely no penetration.
