Tactics & Training Tips

It's no use having a squad full of star players without a decent way for them to play their football.

Default Defensive Line Issue

I generally play wth quite a deep defensive line as I have slow CBs. Yet I still keep conceding goals from wingers getting behind my full backs and crossing to unmarked CFs. I have the CBs set on ultradef and the full backs only slightly more defensive.
A considerable amount of the goals are from corners aswell when the team pushes outwhen I don't want them to.

Do I need to have back arrows on my CBs to stop them running forwards at every possible opportunity, or is it something to with playing counter attacking?

Any hints would be welcome!

I have the same problems since I play with a deep D-Line as well. I just let all my 4 defenders be put on tight marking. It just help a bit but I still leak goals.

I read somewhere that the D-line only comes into affect when the ball is in your half, so if you have a deep line set and the AI plays a long/direct ball from their half your D-line will still be high up the pitch. This is if I understand it right.

You could put Back arrows on your full backs, this would mean they drop back a little futher once you lose the ball. or try man marking their wingers?

Forgot to add..

I try not to have the back line too defensive otherwise you are penned in your own box. I have tried that and I have conceded a lot of goals from outside the box, while my midfielders/defenders are all inside the box.

If your conceding from wingers getting behind your fullbacks, knock their closing down up a notch, until it works.

Great advice.

I started to ramp up the FB's closing down a few days ago, and I'm at the point now where almost every goal conceded comes through the centre, or from a rebounded shot. Hardly any conceded from wingers crossing.

I used to always have high FB closing, but there was trend towards lowe closing and I followed it. Raising it again has worked wonders.
