It's no use having a squad full of star players without a decent way for them to play their football.

Default Defending Leads.......Turning into a joke

One thing that is really taking enjoyment out of FM07 is that it is impossible holding leads. I don't know how many games I have played, while up 2-0 in the second half at home, where I came away with a draw.

As soon as the other team goes with 4 up front they almost automatically score.........it doesn't matter if my back-line is deep or normal or up, 5 defenders or 4, 0 Dimids, 1 Dmid or 2 Dmids, closing down the for strikers or not.........nothing works and I am thinking of hanging FM07 up for good. It is just completely unrealistic.

Is anybody else having this problem? Any suggestions before I go back to FM06?

I find that perhaps the half-time team-talk has much more of an effect on the second half than is realistic. Try getting an assistant manager (if you don't already have one) who has high Motivation and Man Management skills and assign him to do your team talks....

Try making sure that your fullbacks aren't making any forward runs/running with the ball.

Also in Opposition instructions, make sure that all four of the forwards have been set to slocing down - always. Seems to do it for me, but the thing is you really do have to be quick and keep an eye on it because you are right, as soon as they switch, they nearly always score immediately.

Scooby,

I have tried that and will keep on trying it. One thing I have noticed in FM07 is that the fullbacks are out of position far more frequently towards the end of the game......too much really. My fullbacks are pretty decent too.

Anybody else have this problem and have any suggestions?

shooter6065.

Two things I have noticed:

1. High closing down on full backs worked very well pre patch. After the patch I had to decrease CD for my back four and especially for the FBs.

2. If your formation has either M R/L or AM R/L, you can focus your passing down both flanks, when the AI change to 4-2-4. Very often the AI will abandon the 4-2-4 soon after you do this, because your wide players simply gets to much space.

Couldnt have said it better. I used to have the same probs shooter (really bad) and droping closing down for the back 4 to mid way (notch 10) works, i also push up and have a dmc coming from midfield (low mentality and no forward runs) but thats not the main difference.

jaz i also find that team talks are more important now post patch although dont like handing it over to assistant. If you have jermain defoe, constantly tell him your delighted, have faith, and general rear licking, wheter you win or lose 50-0.

Cuirously, I've noticed precisely the opposite.

Pre-patch defenders were far more erratic, and so high CD seemed just to give them further license to run around like loonies.

Since the patch, I've take CD all the way to 16 for full-backs, and 12 for DC's.

With this, along with a high closing DMC, I am flying. No goals conceded in my last 9 in the Premiership and UEFA cup, with a defence that cost a total (6 players for 4 positions) of £1.9m

The last 4 EPL games I've played against weaker opposition, and they've mustered a total of 11 shots, all off target.

The switch to 4-2-4 used to kill me too. After trying a bunch of different tweaks, I'm pretty convinced a defensive approach is the least effective way to go about it.
What seemed to work the best for me was pushing up defensive line and applying offside trap.

The difference was initially quite remarkable. The following 16 times they changed to 4-2-4 I conceeded 0 goals...

Since then its evened out a bit, meaning I score as much as they do, which is ok by me.

it is rediculous, may as well not bother playing the first 75mins of a match. Its all decided in that alst 15mins.

What really buggs me is the fact they alway get in behind the fullbacks who just ignore theiur man and wander inside, leaving the wide fwd to score.

happens every time..even on max width with zero CF.

spoils the game for me..
