I have tried using 3-5-2 tactics/formations in all versions I've played of CM/FM since 97/98 but it has NEVER been sucessful to me wich a shame and also redicilous. I once was an active footballr myself for many many years( I retired a few years back) and we played with a 3-5-2 formation the last 10 seasons I played and with lots of success (relative to what level we played at) so not getting it to work in FM is pretty annoying.
I think part of the reason a 3-5-2 with 2 wingbacks is a in FM is that you can't really give the right instructions to the wingbacks in the game. F.ex an instrution like "stay back and track inwards if other wingback is in attack". This is an integral instrution in the real world but non-excistent in the game.
I'm still testing the one i made but so far i've had some success. Finished 2nd with Fiorentina and got Plymouth into the playoffs with 0 signings. I've never uploaded a tactic but if any of you guys are interested i'd be happy to send you a copy of the tactic i use at the moment, i'd be very interested to see how it works for others!
i've always loved this formation but could never seem 2 get it right. I've been trying since cm01/02 when i saw martin o'neil take over from alex ferguson at United and go unbeaten all season, so it should be possible to make it work.
I played it with 2 Strikers, one AMC, 2 box to box style midfielders, a really defensive Midfielder with a Barrow in between the 2 CBs and of course 2 hard working quick fullbacks.
Since then i've gone more for a back 3 with a central more attacking CB with a Farrow. The reason for this and the whole crux of making the formation work (imho) is getting your defenders to close down their players in wide possitions, if you can get that it works nicely and plays some really pretty football. The only real down side i found to it was that i almost always had low possetion % even when i dominated the game in terms of chances and stuff. I'm starting to think however that this may be a bug or something that all of my tactics suffer from as i've invariably encountered this with all the teams i've managed so far regardless of tactic
I have finally got a wing back tactic that works really well. I've tweaked it to give 4 variations that all work well.I've used it with Man City, and Zaragoza over the past 5 seasons. Tend to do poorly for the first 5 - 6 matches and then stabilise and become very consistent. Score a lot and dont concede too many. Dont know how to put the tactics on here!?! Can I just "copy" and "paste" the saved TAC file straight onto here??
I have a FARROW on the AML to the AMC position, but BARROW on FC and DMC. WB have FWR as mixed. Play the DMC as the playmaker with mixed passing.
I use it with 3 mentality frameworks of defend, balanced and attack.
Usually score 2.7 a match, and concede 0.6 over a season. In a match possesson is usually about 55-60%, shots about 15, SOT about 7. Shots against about 6, SOT against about 3 - usually these are freekicks.
So, solid but nothing exciting.
Tried roughly the same tactic with Tranmere, Melbourne, Rangers and Liverpool and within a couple of seasons usually got promotion and premeiership or equivalent.
I think the secret to the 352 is a higher closing down on the outer CDs and DMC than usual, and man marking on the WBs. It also seems best with a slowish tempo and short passing to give your WBs time to get forward.
i made a tactic which works well lets say like a draw machine. good thing is i hardly dont conceed bad thing i have 20 shots over a game but cant score. sttii early on I'm going to tweak strikers and amc to be more precise. cant believe i cant score with likes of owen and torres up front.
