I've been managing Carlisle for the past years now. Taken them from the dreaded bottomless pit of 3rd division and put them into the mighty premier league. First I was planning to stay at Carlisle until I won Premier League, but now I feel that I want a new challenge. So, what do you guys think? Should I put some of the leagues as "Foreground" and wait for some ****ty team to be rescued?
Depends on what your goals were for the game. Often when I play I go with a specific goal for that team. "Get them into the Premiership." Or with Auxerre when I picked them up out of Division 2 as my 2nd team "Get them back into Europe." I don't leave until I achieve the goal I set, or I'm sacked. Or its clear I'll never do what I hoped and I've taken them as far as I can. But I feel more or less free to go once I do what I set out to do with the club. I base that on my basic presupposition that IRL, most managers don't stay at clubs longer than 5-6 years unless they have a very cushy chair, and I try to work that bit of realism into my game by setting goals that I have to meet quickly, or IRL my "act" as manager would wear thin. And the fact that most managers, like most players, IRL, are ambitious and want to be seen as very good in their chosen profession, and the way to do that is to force your way up the ladder until you either 1) hit the top, or more likely 2) hit your level of incompetence and get sacked back down to where you belong.
Now if your goal is "win everything with Carlisle" than I'd say stick it our with them. That's what you wanted to do. If your board is happy with you, and you still have a chance, then stay. Now if it's hopeless, and winning what you CAN win is getting boring, that's different. As for where to go, that's up to you, as long as your reputation can support the move.
