Having read all the great LLM stories here I have decided to embark on my own little adventure with english conference side Hereford United. This should pose an interesting challenge as the club is 1,300,000 in debt, as well as only having 18 players in the squad, one loaned in and one loaned out. Furthermore the club is equipped with one scout, one coach and one physio. The stadium is decent with a capacity of 8843 (2761 seats). The board expects me to stay clear of relegation.
I decided as my first move at the helm of the club to look for some interested, unemployed a must, staff. My goal was to avoid signing them as player/coach or player/am as i don't want to stock up on crap players that take up squad space. I made one exception from this rule, that being a very interesting looking 35 year old bielorussian midfielder whom i offered a contract as player/coach. When it came to the scouts the field of choice was a little more limited than with the coaches, I however offered positions to the two who in my eyes looked most competent. I also offered a contract to an additional physio, thinking that it at least couldn't make things worse.
When i started looking for players to increase the squad size to at least 25-30 i stumbled upon the fact that there was only one (1) free player willing to join me, a 35 year old croatian defender who had about ten other clubs interested in him. I still offered him a contract, but very pessimistic regarding the chances of him joining me. To sort this situation out I sent my only scout on a mission to find free players in the UK + Eire.
An update on my signings and season progress will be around soon.

Scout Where You Can Tour. Not an LLM rule as such, but more of a guideline. It's not considered "realistic" for a lower league club to be able to send scouts all over the world or even all over Europe.
Well, since I can tour all of the UK and the Republic of Ireland I don't see where I'm not using SWYCT. The croatian and bielorussian are not scouted, I found them in player & staff search, and they were interested.
Is it realistic for you to sign those players without scouting them? Would you really sign an unknown player from Croatia without checking on him first? How would you know that these players were avaliable anyway? How many conference sides that you know have Croatian and Bielorussian players in their squads? The whole player/staff search screen and the "interested" field is a very, very grey area. It's in your own conscience.
Sometimes foreigners appear in the Player Search/Interested screen without being scouted (not the usually famous ones). I've no idea why but I've seen it a good few times.
Ok, I've just misunderstood then. I thought that as long as the players were interested it was ok. Thanks for the explanation. My concience tells me to be realistic and true, so I wont sign 'em.
After studying my squad a bit, I soon realised that to stay clear of relegation this season I would have to improve it considerably. So I found myself out spending a lot of time in the staff search section looking for some old gems who were interested in playing for me. I managed to find a couple of players, but calling them gems would be lying through my teeth. But there were some former div 3 players and such who joined forces with me. The best one probably a former Cardiff midfielder.
As for the staff signing things went pretty well, i managed to get five good coaches and a seemingly perfect scottish am. Two more scouts joined my ranks and were immediately assigned to England & Northern Ireland.
The scouting reports have started to drop in. Thanks to this I've got a couple of interesting looking youngsters on the way.
