Who to pick, who to pick for my first true LLM venture since Barnet way back in CM2, pre Conference days... After some thought, I went for Flexsys Cefn Druids. Two reasons, firstly I like the name and secondly I watched Rally GB around Cefn a few years back.
Cefn stats...
Stadium: Plaskynaston Lane, Wrexham. Capacity of 2000 of which 50 are seats.
Finance: £46,889 in the BLACK (surprised at this) of which £8,000 are available for transfer.
Players: 21, only 1 goalkeeper. And he's very good at picking the ball out of the net judging by his stats.
Staff: 1 coach, scout and physio. Not bad.
Facilities: Adequate. Pleased with that.
Expectations: Improve club squad. Set for a season of hardship then.
Pre-season report...
Try as I might, with £8,000 to spend, free transfers and loans, not a single goalkeeper wants to join me. Oh monkey *****.
Signed a half decent centre back as a player coach and also everyone's favourite Tactical Advisor as Assistant Manager.
Played Kaiserslautern (yes, it was pre arranged) in a friendly, even taking the lead before losing 1-4. I think the crowd of just over 900 will be my biggest of the season.
Cannot even get Bath City to play a friendly, have to settle instead for Bridgnorth Town and the wonderfully named Welsh non-league side, Garden Village.
I'm off now to play said two friendlies and to start kicking balls in anger. Probably at my goalkeeper in an effort to buck his ideas up.
Better change that title to "Valleys" before Rekwob sees it
Good luck with this, from my experience Flexsys are no better or worse than 90% of the other teams in the league, i.e. they're shyte.
The first update...
The second match saw me play the only professional team in Wales who were made to look like a bunch of amateurs. My team of coal miners and sheepherders (who said the English are blinkered stereotypers??!!) won 3-1, with 700 odd locals and a few Barrys forming the crowd of 760. Following from that I signed a German goalkeeper/coach who is just south of 40 and lost in the League Cup groups to Carmarthen Town.
My original goalkeeper is far better than I first feared, and couple with my centre back/coach that I signed we've got the joint best defence in the league after 10 games...
Pos Team Played Won Drew Lost F:A Points
1 Flexsys Cefn Druids 10 6 1 3 13:8 19
2 Cwmbran Town 10 5 4 1 14:10 19
3 Bangor City 11 5 4 2 12:9 19
4 Aberystwyth Town 11 5 2 4 16:12 17
5 Haverfordwest 9 4 3 2 15:8 15
Carmarthen Town, Afan Lido & Caersws also on 15 points, with Barry Town languishing in 16th on 11.
A close start, and I'm ecstatic to be top! Doom looks close... My D L has just picked up an 8 match ban for a head butt (this is a violent league, one opponent got 8 matches for landing a left hook on my striker), my centre back/coach is out for 3 weeks and my GK will soon be starting a 3 match ban, increased from 1 for misconduct! Arse!
I was happy to see Cwmbran reach the 2nd round of the UEFA Cup, where they got hammered by Newcastle. Should help the Welsh co-efficient a bit.

Firstly... code tags? How? What? When? Please explain to a 'code tag' virgin!
Anywho, update number two...
Two games after my left back got an 8 match ban for a headbutt, then my right back went and did the same bloody thing! A 2 week fine for both, which costs next to nothing but it's the principle. Unsurprisingly, this has also led to a loss in form.
On the plus signed, I've signed a crop of 4 youngsters, three from the principality and one from over the Irish Sea. One is even a first team regular already, and all four show promise. In addition, one striker who is who bleeds the white and black of Cefn has an impressive record of scoring once every two games.
League table (minus code tags because I'm none the wiser!)
Lost in the 4th Round of the Welsh Cup, 3-2 away to Carmarthen, who are really spoiling my cup competitions.
Attempts to sign an unfit, overweight, ex England international, joker Geordie on loan failed. As did an arrogant, dirty wonderkid, neither of whom were playing for their club. Oh well... At least I now have a third keeper.
