Yep. We beat Ghana, Zambia, and South Africa in friendlies, then drew Australia , and Argentina. I'll be guiding the Super Eagles into the Confederations Cup, where once again our group includes Argentina. This time we also have Canada (as the minnow) and Japan. The FA hasn't given me any expectations for the Confederation Cup. I want to advance to the 2nd round, from there we'll see who we draw.

So was I. But we did fight back from 0-2 to tie the Argies, so that was better. We just completed a whipping of traditional victim Ghana. The FA is complaining about how fan support is waning. Gee, it's not like I can buy new players for a National team. I'm hoping that after the Confederation's Cup they'll be another international position to move to. We'll see.

Fan's player of the year was Super Dane, he was also 2nd in French Player of the Year balloting (to the Greek Toulouse striker I brought in) he also has earned a couple caps. Hasn't scored for Denmark yet, but may soon. A number of others are internationals, but I can't claim to having gotten any of them onto their sides. We're going to play Boca Juniors and Anderlecht in our friendlies this season.

BTW, I was wrong about the Italian midfielder being a regen, I should read player stats more closely. He starts with Puteolana, he's an AM (R/L/C) with "either" footed rating. However, my Italian striker IS a regen. And I think I know of whom. Some guy who played a couple spells in the NE of England and used to pull his jersey over his face when he scored.

I hate to be a nitpick, but it's the Super Eagles, not Silver

Umm, I can't edit that far back, if you'd have read the rest of the references, I'd think you'd realize that one was a typo.

BTW, I should mention that 2nd place in France now, due to coefficients, only nets the 2nd place side a QUALIFYING berth in the Champion's League. We were sent through to the 3rd round, and seeded against an Eastern European side. But rather annoying. 2 Champion's League berths, one a qualifier. Four UEFA Cup berths, and 2 Intertoto, the strangest 8 European setup I've even seen. I guess Toulouse stunk up Europe for me the 2 years they went after I was gone. Plus Lille was in it last season, and they lost every match in Europe, of course, they went from Champion's League to 2nd Division in 1 season too. But Lyon finished 2nd to Juve in the CL one season.

Speaking of my nemesis. We met them in the preseason Champion's Cup. They took a 3-1 lead on us. Then my DMC decided to beat them physically if we couldn't on the pitch. Earned himself a red card, and a fine after the match from me. For which he was displeased, so I put him in the reserves and transfer listed him. But we did fight back well. We scored 2 goals in the last 20 minutes with 10 men. My now 33 year old Knight who says... put home the equalizer. The match goes to PKs right after regulation.

We make 3 of the first 4 PKs, they make all 5 of their's. Another heartbreak to start the season. It makes me sick just looking at their roster full of E10 million men. Every starter on their side was acquired or has a value of 8mil or more. A couple are well into the high teens. My highest valued player is 8mil. I managed to land a few Bosmans. But I doubt any of them are an immediate help, other than to provide me with some 1st team depth. The only exception is one of my Nigerians came to the side to play AMC. But he has a minimum fee release of 7mil and a starting value of 6.5mil. How long do you think he'll be staying? What's more Super Dane seems to have started the season with kryptonite in his pants. He averaged a 6.5 in preseason, no goals, and he was subbed out for the Knight in the 60th minute with a 6 rating. If he goes south, it'll be a LONG season.

OH, and I should mention that I had not one, but two scouts retire on me without warning prior to the season. And I've never had a scout retire on me before.

I started the Confederation's Cup. And I'll provide an update on that when we finish. The good news is that it's being played in Germany, so they don't have to wire me for a satellite feed to coach both matches in the same day. Just put me on a bullet train back and forth. Super Eagles-2007 Confederation Cup

We drew Japan, Canada and Argentina for our group. We dispatched both of the first two with ease. 3-0 over Japan, 2-0 over Canada. This assured us a spot in the 2nd round even before our showdown with the Argies. (Even better, they had lost to Japan 0-2 in their match! :eek We fought back from 0-1 through Super Forward and 1-2 through a nice bit of poaching by our striker to end in a 2-2 draw that saw us play Uruguay instead of Holland.

Our left back put a celestial free kick through in the 17th minute and we scored another in the 2nd half to beat off a forlorn Uruguay strike 2-1 in the Semi-Finals. That put us through to face Argentina again in the Finals, as they had beaten Holland 1-0.

However, I was able to rest my best players for the final match. And it showed. Super Forward (whose first name is shared with Caesar) struck again. A poach in the box made it 2-0, a strike that left our keeper feeling crispy made it 2-1, but we struck back almost immediately to give us a 3-1 final.

Nigeria-2007 Confereration's Cup Champions!

The win puts our ranking at #14 worldwide, the highest of any African nation. BTW< I guess I shouldn't feel so bad about that draw to the Aussies, they're #13. Proving that CM is an accurate footy sim, even in the game FIFA rankings are meaningless. My personal ranking is now #1 (YES) in France, "world class," and #45, "good" world-wide, 3 places above the successor of Sir Alex at Man Utd, who used to manage Glasgow Rangers and has the same first name. Nigeria has had 14 in a row unbeaten since the World Cup, a 4-4 shootout with South Africa being #14. That's a record for their National Team. The FA had nothing to say about the most prestigious win in African senior side history.

Auxerre has started the season well. We rubbed it in Toulouse's face again, a 4-3 win at the Stadium Municipal, a goal by my old Greek Striker offset by 2 from Super Dane, who has allayed my fears by scoring 4 in 4 matches once the season began in earnest, earning him another callup to the National Team. My successor at Toulouse is now "very insecure" and has been told in no uncertain terms that he needs to produce the goods in short order to keep his job.

We qualifed for the Champion's League, a 4-2 aggregate win over Zilnia. We drew a 1st round of Lazio (3rd in Serie A), PAO, and a Hungarian team Lizit(?sp). I've had a lot worse 1st round draws than this, 10 points ought to be on the table.

Our 12 points from 4 league matches puts Auxerre top of the table, alone, for the moment. But before we celebrate too much in our good fortune, we have a little trip to make. Our nemesis awaits in our next match. Lyon, at their stadium, no less. To be the best, you have to beat the best, they say.

Good to see I'm not the only one who runs afoul of the 30min time limit from time to time. ;-^)
