arguments aside, do people really believe that serious competition wouldn't be a good thing? Afterall it would be us (the paying customers) that would benefit.

That would only be a logical argument if SI had modelled the entire football world perfectly in the last version, which they clearly hadn't.

I don't particularly think that FM08 is a let down, but making silly arguments doesn't help anyone's position. </BLOCKQUOTE>

My point is that people keep saying there's nothing new, no wow factor is a common phrase.
Well there's been no wow factor in football either.

The only real path for SI is to develop what's already there and certainly things like interaction with media and board are wooden and limited.

As I see it there's plenty of scope to improve modules of FM but big innovations will only come with new technology.

Interaction is by triggered text strings, I don't see a way to improve it other than creating a huge library of options to be triggered.
Many of them have impact on other things so it would be quite a challenge I think.

Well like you say, there are no new features to add due to there being no major changes to real world football. So what else are SI going to do with their time if not take up the challenge of improving the poor media interaction? It has to be done, the current (lack of) depth in the interaction between player/media right now is quite pathetic.

There doesn't need to be a wow factor in football to add something more to FM. For a start, the ability to run every league concurrently would be nice. There's no technological reason why it can't be done, the only reason it hasn't been done is that SI have differing thoughts on how their world should be modelled - they're not prepared to make certain leaps down with what they regard as accuracy. So if they can't have League X simulated to a certain degree, you can't have it at all.

Oh, and I'll just add that I'd never suggest they get that done within a single year! It would require an overhaul of the entire game.

That's one of the funniest things I've read all day if not this week. Think about what it is that you're saying. There are plenty of things in 'real' football that are yet to be implemented in FM. Off the top of my head there are ten things available to a manager that we do not have in FM. To use your argument, as the previous poster said, FM would need to reflect the real football world 100%. It doesn't.

Nevertheless, I don't disagree with you completely (I think, I'm not sure you know what you're arguing exactly) it would be nice to have a fully functioning set of modules without having new features implemented for the sake of it. The problem is, this is exactly what SI has done. There were many features from FM2007 that needed fixing and instead of doing so, we get new features such as 'confidence' which in themselves don't work.

Anyway, let's hope it all works out for the best

I wasted my money on both games already, but I have also to admit I'm playing both games too.

CM2008 remembers me of the old CM, it's not overloaded, just fun to play with some very good additions like ProZone.

FM2008 is very similar to FM2007 and I guess it will become also that playable after one or two patches. I like the facegen addition, as it adds something to play with non-real players that makes this option interesting the first time for me.

If you can afford it, why not play both games, as they have different approaches and both companies are offering something for people interested in football management games.

Competition and rivalry are okay and important.

Yeah, i had a good laugh with that one as well

Football the game hasn't changed, so FM doesn't need to?

Whilst FM is a solid game as it is, there are many things that can be vastly improved on it, the media interaction for one.

It's fine if you enjoy playing FM, i do as well, but other people have the right to criticize the game if they choose.
