- Simply select the new position for the player on his training screen
- It works for some players, not for others. Varying degrees depending on the player and position. You ain't gonna make Wayne Rooney a GK.
- I've done it with youngsters I train who I'd prefer had different positions. ie. I don't use wingers, so I try to get them to train as AMC instead. Works well the few times I've tried it.
Hmm... I've been pondering this also. I am having a dire season at the moment.
I am contemplating re-training a player to a new position such as an AM to Right Midflied, or a Right winger.
Although are the still a very effective, AM, but competant as a RM? Or are they not an AM any more because they've re-learnt the position so the squad always treats the player I.E as in passing to them as winger not a central midfield ed player. TBH I've always avoided this.
I use this feature for every player. Young and old. Some players don't like it, and it takes some players a long time, (Low versatility) But it's effective in your team.
I retrain players into 1 more position, usually the opposite of what they have.
DL - DR
DR - DL
DC - MC/DR/DL (Depending on Players Stats)
MR-ML
ML-MR
MC - DC/MC/ST/ML/MR (Again, Dependant on stats)
AML-AMR
AMR-AML
ST - AM/MC
Then for those who already have a few positions, I train them to any position which they suit, again, Dependant on stats.
Made Della Valle a right winger as opposed to AMC/ST.
I was short for backup in that area and he is never going to displace my other AMCs or STs. I kind-of "like" him so didn't want to sell - wierd how you can get attached to a piece of programming, eh?
Players will never lose their Natural position (or as far as I'm aware any other positions in which they are accomplished at the start of the game) when you retrain them, but they will likely lose a retrained position (or drop down to awkward or whatever categories there are) if you retrain them in yet another new position.
Effectiveness of the training depends on hidden attributes (mostly Versitility) so those who like to cheat can use outside programs to look at those attributes if the fancy takes them. Some players "never" retrain poistions although I haven't analysed whether a player who is unhappy at learning a new position does still successfully do so and all that kind of stuff.
From what I remember reading from some SI literature retraining works best on young players so is ideal for those who come out of your youth system and are still raw. Retraining an established player of, say 26, is less likely to be successful, I think, because they are already much more firmly entrenched in their natural positions.
I retrain players sporadically when I feel I need it or, if I can be bothered, I look at all my young players and decide on a second position to train them to for increased versitility. Like many people I've had players in my squad that I like a lot, but who happen to play only in a position where I have others ahead of them.
